Spinal Tapas Presents

Posted by Foobooz on 9th September 2009

Must Eats: The Event

Even if Philadelphia Weekly’s Brian McManus and Tim McGinnis weren’t going by the name Spinal Tapas we’d still be excited by their Must Eats: The Event.

Inspired by the Philadelphia Weekly cover story “Must Eats: 50 Things You Gotta Have Right Now,” the nine course tasting menu featuring items from the story is set for October 24th at 7pm. The all-inclusive meal is $90 per person and limited to just 16 guests.

What Philadelphia mash-ups will you see on the menu? How about Fiorella’s sausage on a Parc baguette washed down with a Yards beer.

Check out the menu after the jump.

Mmmmm, Beer!

Posted by Foobooz on 10th July 2009

Joe Sixpack’s article today is chock full of beery goodness. He profiles the recently opened Brauhaus Schmitz, gives props to Varga Bar, updates us on the New Jersey Turnpike and Flying Fish saga and tips us off to BeerMenus.com. And then he really gets us wanting with a link to a Yards Brawler cycling jersey and rundown of a sixpack of chocolate truffles made with local beers at Verde.

Yards Brewpub To New Jersey?

Posted by Foobooz on 23rd June 2009

Joe Sixpack is reporting that Yards Brewing is close to agreeing to open a new brewpub in nearby Merchantville, New Jersey. The brewpub would take over an 80-year old bank building. Making the plan doable is the borough owns the building and the liquor license already and want to bring Yards in.

Yards is open for retail sales Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm. And is open Saturdays for informal tours from noon to 3pm.

Beer Love from NYT

Posted by Kirsten Henri on 19th January 2009

This weekend, the New York Times discovered that THERE IS A MAGNIFICENT CRAFT BEER CULTURE IN PHILADELPHIA! Of course, we have known this all along, but getting a shout-out in the Times makes it more likely that our out-of-town friends will actually believe us when we tell them about it.:

Much of the upswing can be attributed to Philadelphia’s bubbling night life. The new breweries, said Don Russell, who as Joe Sixpack writes a weekly column about beer for The Philadelphia Daily News, “are filling a need that’s out there being created by the local bar scene. Every single bar that has been opening up has a multitap system and is featuring microbrews.”

Combine that robust tavern scene with cheap real estate in emerging neighborhoods, and you’ve got the ingredients for a beer blast. In recent years, a half-dozen breweries and specialty pubs have opened in Philadelphia, ranging from boutique breweries that make micro batches to green-powered plants looking to become the city’s next biggest thing.

We knew that cheap real estate was good for something. EBB, Yards, and Dock Street are all name-checked in the article.
