More Burgers, Lots More Burgers

Posted by Foobooz on 13th July 2009

Grub Street Philadelphia launched today with a slideshow of 22 notable Philadelphia burgers including the never before seen Village Whiskey behemoth. It’s a mix of sirloin, chuck eye roll and chuck topped with Rogue’s (as in the beer) blue cheese and sauteed foie gras. Yikes!

Sad/great thing. We recognized 10 of the 22 burgers without realizing the description was on the right-hand side.

Posted by Foobooz on 1st July 2009

Garces ChifaWe know we just posted a link to Philadelphia Magazine’s article about Jose Garces but now we’ve sat down and actually had a chance to read Lauren McCutcheon’s profile of the prolific chef.

Among the Fooboozian highlights:

  • Rumor has it Garces missed the James Beard Awards perhaps becuase he’s working on a Food Network gig.
  • July is still the targeted opening for Village Whiskey.
  • Garces Trading Co. is the name for the food/wine commisary (PLCB partnership) coming this fall to the Western Union building on Locust.
  • The Fontainebleau Las Vegas is getting a rooftop Amada, twice the size of the original.

Check it all out.

Jose Garces On Philadelphia

Posted by Foobooz on 8th May 2009

Two.One.Five Magazine interviews James Beard award winning chef Jose Garces and finds out he likes us, he really, really likes us!

It feels great to head home for Mercat (Garces’ Chicago restaurant), but Philadelphia is home to me; I started my family here, I started my business here and the city has taken me to places in my career that I never could have predicted growing up, cooking alongside my grandmother in our family kitchen. Every city has its own personality, and I’ve been very lucky to find one that suits me as well as Philadelphia does.
