More Village Whiskey

Posted by Foobooz on 2nd September 2009

Hope you’re not tired of Village Whiskey coverage yet. Today the Bite over analyzes the menu and the Illadelph breaks down the beer list.

And late yesterday Meal Ticket was back for more pictures, including the burgers and fries.

The worst news, Thursday’s opening will probably be pushed to Friday.

Village Whiskey Opens Next Thursday

Posted by Foobooz on 28th August 2009

village_whiskey_outside

Jose Garces’ Village Whiskey opens next Thursday (11:30am if you’re particularly antsy) and the menus are now available for analysis.

The Whiskey King burger that Grub Street teased us with in July now has a price, a steep $24 for the 10oz  farm-raised Angus beef from Maine. It’s topped with foie gras, maple bourbon glazed cipolini, blue cheese and applewood bacon. There’s also a Village Burger for a more reasonable $9 that can be topped with a choice of Haystack Mountain Chevre, Jasper Hill Cheddar or Rogue Smokey Blue for $3 and bacon for $2.

There’s a lobster roll at an Oyster House matching $26 and a Kentucky Fried Quail with sweet potato, chanterelle and corn succotash, roast chicken gravy for $14.

The bar snacks intrigue with homemade cheese puffs, deviled eggs, tater tots and soft pretzels. But for decadent finger foods, we’re most intrigued by the duck fat french fries served with Sly Fox cheddar sauce. Go all out by adding shortrib to the fries. We’d like to think of this as some high-end version of Nick’s Cafe’s gravy and cheese fries.

Check out the complete food menu after the jump as well as the beer, wine, cocktails and whiskey menus.

More Burgers, Lots More Burgers

Posted by Foobooz on 13th July 2009

Grub Street Philadelphia launched today with a slideshow of 22 notable Philadelphia burgers including the never before seen Village Whiskey behemoth. It’s a mix of sirloin, chuck eye roll and chuck topped with Rogue’s (as in the beer) blue cheese and sauteed foie gras. Yikes!

Sad/great thing. We recognized 10 of the 22 burgers without realizing the description was on the right-hand side.

Last night during a late evening stroll (trying to forget about that Phillies game) we noticed that the paper was down from the windows at Village Whiskey.

And low and behold, what did we see?

Yes, Who Is Jose Garces?

Posted by Foobooz on 1st July 2009

Garces ChifaWe know we just posted a link to Philadelphia Magazine’s article about Jose Garces but now we’ve sat down and actually had a chance to read Lauren McCutcheon’s profile of the prolific chef.

Among the Fooboozian highlights:

  • Rumor has it Garces missed the James Beard Awards perhaps becuase he’s working on a Food Network gig.
  • July is still the targeted opening for Village Whiskey.
  • Garces Trading Co. is the name for the food/wine commisary (PLCB partnership) coming this fall to the Western Union building on Locust.
  • The Fontainebleau Las Vegas is getting a rooftop Amada, twice the size of the original.
  • Dave Conn will be chef de cuisine at Village Whiskey.

Check it all out.
