Talking with the Owner of Tria

Posted by Kirsten Henri on 23rd January 2009

Philly Mag has a short-n-sweet Q&A with Jon Myerow, owner of Tria. Now Jon is one of our favorite local restaurateurs (he’s really more of a beer-and-cheese-ateur), mostly because he runs one of the tightest, smartest ships in town… and also because he has an unspeakably dark, dry sense of humor which you may detect traces of in the article:

My start in restaurants
I started in 1985 as a bus person, the day before receiving my degree in Russian language and philosophy. My parents were so proud.

We always wondered from where this bleak demeanor sprang – now we know it must have been all those philosophy classes. And no, there isn’t any information on where the next Tria will be located but you should check out the interview anyway.

Fries with that Shake also visit El Camino Real. It’s the mac n’ cheese that has her singing though. [Fries with that Shake]

Waaah! Tria G-Ho Is Dead

Posted by Foobooz on 9th December 2008

With 21st and South being just a couple of blocks from Foobooz World Headquarters, we have selfishly been looking forward to a G-Ho Tria Cafe but today we learn the deal is off.

Tria is still actively seeking a third location and the owner of 2054 South Street, James Romeo is actively looking for a tenant. Romeo is looking to have the space ready for delivery by January 1st.

We’ve already suggested some locations for Tria but here’s a new question for you:
What would you like to see go into the old MAB store across from LaVa and Ten Stone?

Quick Bites with Sawdust Report

Posted by Foobooz on 26th November 2008

With big construction projects drying up around town it is promising to hear the sound of nail guns and saws still emanating from a few places.

The new concept from Mad River is moving forward at 1528 Sansom Street. Pop by during the day and you can see the early stages of a bar and booth seating.

Also pleasing, is witnessing the construction that seems to be ramping up at the Tria location set for 20th and South. Lots of lumber on the scene.

Decidedly un-glam Ugly Mug to take over Glam on 2nd Street. Interestingly, Ugly Mug was rumored to be taking over Sassafras more than a year ago. [Meal Ticket]

The Sidecar Bar gets a new chef and just some tweaks to the menu. [Meal Ticket]

Also getting a new chef is the London Grill who snatch up Waldemar “Val” Stryjewski who has been just about everywhere. [Table Talk, Philadelphia Inquirer]

You may have heard of or even sampled Betty’s Tasty Buttons and now you can seek them out at their store front, Betty’s Speakeasy on Grays Ferry Avenue. [Meal Ticket]

And the New Tria Goes To…

Posted by Kirsten Henri on 14th October 2008

Sorry, Queen Village! If all goes smoothly, Tria #3 will be located in the former M.A.B. paint store at the corner of 21st and South. Which would make G.Ho the winner of this particular neighborhood smackdown.

The owner of the building contacted Foobooz to say that he’s “agreed in principal to lease terms with Tria owner Jon Myerow.” Which means things could still go in any direction. And then there’s the community board fun, after the jump.
