Azie on Main takes over the upstairs dining area at Maia. This is Win Somboonsong’s sixth restaurant making him a bit of a suburban Stephen Starr. The space resembles Maia and has room for 200+ diners inside and another 40 or so outside. The menu focuses on Asian dishes including sushi and lots of seafood. Try the halibut on lobster risotto in particular. Also worth noting, Azie will take $25 off your bill when you bring in your old Maia gift cards through August 31st.

Foodadelphia is almost poetic for the Tuna Bi-Bim-Bop at Tampopo.
I open up the plastic dish and immediately the smell of fresh tuna and spicy sauce comes flying out of the container. I mix the cabbage, avocado, lettuce, rice, and other greens in this atypical bi-bim-bop (remember, Tampopo is not a traditional restaurant by any means). The taste is incredibly fresh, if not overly spicy. The fresh fish has great bite, and the portion is very generous for $10. The veggies provide a nice crunch, the avocado (a fruit), a nice fatty contrast to the lean fish. Too much hot sauce marred the dish, but not enough for me to lose the fact that underneath that mask was a perfect combination of food.

Kirsten Henri tries the Tampopo on Jewelers Row and finds the same quality food as the Rittenhouse location without any of the crowds.
Try to remember Tampopo’s second location the next time you’re hungry and don’t want to spend too much money or wait for a table. Remember it when you want something simple and fresh and easy. And fast. There’s no waiting for anything at Tampopo. How could there be? There’s no one else to serve.

Looking for a good lunch spot downtown? Consider Tampopo on Jewelers Row.
The spicy pork kimchee don is a perfect example of Tampopo’s distinctive Korean-Japanese fusion, melding the sweetness of a teriyaki marinade with the sour fire of chili-pickled cabbage. For only $6.95 a bowl, including your choice of white or brown rice, it’s one of the best high-voltage flavor bargains around.
