Tale of the Tape: Square 1682

Square 1682 is the new restaurant at the base of the Palomar Hotel at 17th and Sansom.The name is inspired by William Penn who founded Philadelphia in 1682 and his plan for a “green countrie towne” comprised of five squares.

Chew Man Chu is a new dumpling, noodle and wok restaurant replacing Marty Grim’s DuJour at the Symphony House at Broad and Pine. Tyson Wong Ophaso is the chef with extensive experience in France, New York, Los Angeles and now in Philadelphia. He’ll also run Marty Grim’s Commerce Square restaurant which is looking like 2010. Grub Street has details on Square 1682 in the Kimpton Hotel at 17th and Sansom. Former Charlie Trotter second-in-command, Guillermo Tellez will be the chef. Sounds promising. [Grub Street]

Square 1682 Is The Name

The Illadelph who owns all hotel related news in Philadelphia gets another scoop. The restaurant at the Palomar Philadelphia will be called Square 1682.

The Palomar is currently being constructed at the the corner of 17th and Sansom in the old Architects Building and is aiming to be open in November 2009.
