The Phillies are playing again tonight and if you’re not actually in L.A. for the game (ahem) we’d suggest watching it at the South Philadelphia Tap Room, which has a new chef and menu.
Meal Ticket has all the scoop on the chef – Scott Schroeder, formerly of the departed Deuce and Pontiac Grille – and he’s got the menu, too, which debuted this past Friday.
Still no Newbold Spuds, but we can certainly get behind roast pork with long hots, braised brisket sandwiches with horseradish Cheddar and Southern-fried chicken wings.

South Philadelphia Taproom.
The SPTR is getting a new Chef who will start mid Oct.
Until then we are going to run a Blast From The Past Menu
ie: Mussels, monster grilled cheese, calamari etc. And Suprise you can get just fries if u want. We apologize to our customers for the last 6 months that have been disappointed with us.
Hopefully u can all walk in again and stumble out
CHEERS!!!!!!!!
Does this mean our crusade to return Newbold Spuds to their rightful spot on the SPTR menu may finally be a success?

South Philadelphia Taproom got a new kitchen and menu in April and have had some exotic meats like ostrich, boar and bear on it. But one item has gone the way of the dodo, lion. Adam Erace has the story on the controversial menu item.

And in much less controversial news tomorrow SPTR will be pouring 12 Allagash beers all night. The Beer Lass has the full list. We’ll be elbowing you out of the way for the Interlude and it seems like we’ll have to try the Fluxus 08.

Blue Pig at SPTR
Today’s Bite highlights the brunch options at the South Philadelphia Taproom and is especially happy to see some different egg-free offerings. And if you notice in the picture above there are what appears to be Newbold Spuds on the plate. Almost but not quite. These chips weren’t directly from the fryer and no Taproom sauce. Still beat the heck out of regular chips though.
Also in today’s Metro, some late afternoon bargains and a tip that Monk’s Cafe offers beer to go.

In Elisa Ludwig’s last review as a City Paper restaurant critic she visits the South Philadelphia Taproom where she finds a food menu that’s trying to match the beer selection.
SPTR builds on the classic model: a casually delivered combination of basic sandwiches, fried items and relatively exotic animal parts, with an emphasis on the latter. Everything — from the boar bacon to the veggie burger — is made in-house. Props to Zulli for this approach, making food a bigger priority. But in the end, execution counts more than ambition, and SPTR might want to consider paring down the kooky stuff for simpler, more consistent fare.
