Snack, Graze, Relax

Posted by Foobooz on 4th November 2009

Adam Erace enjoys the details as he eats and relaxes at Snackbar.

As a former sous chef at Zahav, 27-year-old Taus brings a clear culinary focus that has eluded snackbar. The menu feels very American, very loose and likeable, with a collection of plates that are neither small nor large. Taus’ food is suited to grazing, but fortunately the servers don’t get all mathematical about your order. Start slow and order more when you get hungry again, seems to be the practice here, echoed by Makar, who says he actually encourages staff not to turn tables.

Tonight

Posted by Foobooz on 8th July 2009

Snackbar has been using its Twitter account to say things other than RIP latest dead celebrity and has been posting their nightly special. Tonight it’s New Orleans-style blackened chicken with cheesy-jalapeno grits and collard greens.

Sounds pretty good and Michael Jackson free.

New Menu At Snackbar

Posted by Foobooz on 17th June 2009

Snackbar

There’s a new summer menu at Snackbar. They’re calling it small plates with big flavor. The new menu crosses the $20 mark a couple of times in the olive oil poached salmon, chicken breast in garlic jus and the steak frites but most items hover in the low to mid-teens.

Check out the full menu after the jump.

Quick Bites

Posted by Foobooz on 27th January 2009

The Oyster House is more than just an empty shell now. The cocktail bar, oyster bar and much of the rest of the interior has been framed out. [Oyster House]

It wasn’t that long ago that we peeked in Ladder 15 and saw just wooden frames. Now comes word it will open in early t0 mid-March and the place will be more upscale and less collegiate than partners Mike Mastellone’s and Max Tucker’s Mad River bars. [Meal Ticket]

Brauhaus Schmitz, the German Bier Hall that’s aiming to open on South Street in April is at a point where it’s looking for a head chef. [Brauhaus Schmitz]

SnugBar is probably not a bar that will smell like a fabric softener. It probably is an Irish bar. It will be located in the former Peacock on the Parkway. [The Insider]

Snackbar has a new winter menu with hearty dishes like braised lamb shoulder with smoked pappardelle and sherry-glazed cipollini onions. [Meal Ticket]

Late Afternoon Rainy Roundup of Restaurant News

Posted by Kirsten Henri on 26th February 2008

Our boy Blogalicious tells us that Izakaya will be the name of the new Michael Schulson restaurant in the Borgata.

Our girl Taste Daily brings us word of new sushi coming to the avenue. That would, of course, be Passyunk Avenue.

Food & Drinq, who is his own man, has scoop on Snackbar opening in the mornings (again).  Make sure to tip your barista, they’re paying him $5 an hour.
