Taste the Rum Bar’s take on eggnog. The Coquito is Puerto Rico’s preferred holiday elixr and combines eggs, cream, cinnamon, vanilla, condensed milk, cream of coconut and, of course, rum. Sounds delicious.

A few months ago I was asked if I would like to judge the
Mojito Olympics at the
Rum Bar. I of course jumped at the chance and it didn’t dawn on me that it could be anything but a great time until Rum Bar owner
Adam Kanter handed me a sizeable stack of judging forms. There were five contestants representing
Chick’s Cafe,
G Lounge,
Pinocchio’s in Media, Rum Bar and
Valanni. With three events that meant sampling 15 mojitos. My lunch of a soft pretzel seemed woefully inadequate at this point.
Continued after the jump.

In just under two weeks the
Rum Bar will be hosting the
Mojito Olympics on Monday, June 16th at 6pm. The Mojito Olympics are the brainchild of Rum Bar owner
Adam Kanter and will feature bartenders from various Philadelphia restaurants competing in three mojito making events.
- Fastest Muddle – Each bartender will compete to see who can make 10 mojitos the fastest. Points are deducted if they don’t look or taste good.
- Best Traditional – Bartenders will aim to impress with their take on the mojito using only traditional ingredients.
- Best In Show – Bartenders will try to wow the judges with their own creation being graded on taste, creativity, appearance and method.
Foobooz Editor Arthur Etchells will be judging along with Lacroix Chef Matthew Levin and Caseyboy from the Preston & Steve Show.
Tickets are $8 per person and include one free mojito, sample of the competitors mojitos plus half-priced mojitos all night.
