Grub Street gets some precious nuggets of information about Percy Street Barbecue, the South Street barbecue restaurant from Steven Cook and Michael Solomonov slated for an October opening. It’ll be very Texan with brisket as king. There will also be salvaged materials from an unlikely spot. [Grub Street]
Meal Ticket has the latest on Rubb, Matt Levin’s Manayunk BBQ spot aiming for a September opening. It’ll be a small 25-seat spot with four smokers, each using a different wood. The menu highlight will be the exclusive Elysian Fields lamb served with a North African pepper sauce. Also, Levin’s pig mascot needs a name. Can you beat the names already posted? [Meal Ticket]

The Gary Maddox BBQ Challenge is this Saturday from 4 to 7pm at Citizens Bank Park. The event is open to the public (you don’t need tickets to the Phillies game to attend) and food tickets make money for the Youth Golf & Academics Program, an academic enrichment program founded by Garry Maddox to support children who reside in troubled city neighborhoods.
This year Stephen Starr has been brought on board and four of his restaurants, Barclay Prime, Jones, El Vez and Buddakan will be competing.
Check out the complete list after the jump, sorry Illadelph, no Bebe’s.

Matt Levin will be opening Rubb, his “punk-rock bbq” spot on Main Street in Manayunk this fall. Michael Klein gets the menu today. We say yes to it all but especially the spicy chicken sandwich with pickles and sweet cabbage as well as hush puppies with poblano ketchup. We’re also intrigued by what Levin means by bug juice.
Also of note, the Illadelph was right, Levin will be at Saturday’s Stephen Starr-Garry Maddox BBQ Challenge.
