Paesano’s in the Italian Market will have an expanded menu. Look for tripe with egg and a Paesano Burger topped with fries, balsamic vineagr, garlic mayo, pancetta and gorgonzola dolce. We thought we were done salivating over burgers but maybe just this one more. [The Insider]

Prohibition Taproom opens for lunch starting today.

No Reason To Resist

Adam Erace finds the “BAR” sign in front of Prohibition Taproom is just the beginning of the story. There’s darn good food in there too.

Today an optimistic spirit floats over Prohibition’s marvelous bar, as unexpected as the counter’s twin peninsulas jutting into the dining room like cherrywood jetties. The impressive beer list is just one reason for the warm and fuzzies. The other is the food: earnest American stuff executed well and without pretense by exec chef James Henry and sous Jen Sherman. The fries are cut by hand, the wing sauce is from scratch and the only thing frozen is the vanilla ice cream plunked into a frosted mug of root beer.

Prohibition Taproom In CP

Posted by Foobooz on 15th January 2009

David Snyder praises the fried green beans at Prohibition Taproom and has plenty of nice things to say about the rest of the menu too.

The pub burger, cooked to a textbook medium, sat next to a heaping mound of perfectly cooked thin-cut fries, a refreshing change from the fossilized spuds that are so often the norm in the city. The real star of this plate, though, was the cowboy onion, a thick Vidalia slice that had been wrapped in bacon while roasting. The Sly Fox O’Reilly’s Stout added to Henry’s French onion soup struck chords in a deeper register, giving this sweet bowl a dry, soulful finish. I liked the balance the hoisin barbecue sauce delivered to the mammoth wings. By design, roasted beets with baby arugula, goat cheese and slivered almonds was also a winner.

End Prohibition

Posted by Foobooz on 4th December 2008

The 75th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition is tomorrow and naturally we and bars are celebrating.

If you’re out early hit up the Memphis Taproom from 3 to 4pm when they’ll pouring all beer on draft for just a buck.

Chick’s Cafe will be featuring several old school specialty cocktails priced at $7.50 that are made using all American spirits – the Ward Eight (bourbon), Sazerac (rye), Scofflaw (blended American whiskey) and the Jack Rose (applejack).

The Institute gets in on the repeal day specials with 3.50 Tullemore Dew, $3.50 flavored Bacardi $1.50 PBR  all day.  From 9pm until 11pm there will be $2.00 Philly Brewing and Yards drafts. And they go all 1933 crazy at 19:33 (that’s 7:33pm), they’ll be offering all their draft beer for 10 cent beers for 19 minutes and 33 seconds. Never tried a Backwoods Bastard, it’s a worthwhile gamble for a dime.

On Saturday from 7 to 10pm APO Bar and Lounge (formerly Apothecary) and Philadelphia Distilling will be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Repeal with big of Punch and some early jazz. APO will be offering bottles of punch (which serve 4-5), featuring Bluecoat American Dry Gin and Penn 1681 Organic Rye Vodka, for $19.33. They’ll also have select cocktails available for $6. [Facebook Invite]

Resist Prohibition is the tag line for Victory Brewing, so do your part and lift a pint of cask-conditioned Hop Devil at the London Grill.

And where could be more appropriate to go than to the recently opened Prohibition Taproom.

Rick Nichols On Prohibition Taproom

Posted by Foobooz on 17th November 2008

Prohibition Taproom

Rick Nichols is drawn to the Loft District’s Prohibition Taproom by three glowing letters, B-A-R.

The place had me at the BAR sign. On a commercial strip, who’d ever notice it? But here in the dark, not a mouse stirring (well, maybe a mouse) in the Loft District, it is something of a beacon and a safe harbor, as straightforward and direct as that hospital H.

A Few Looks At Prohibition Taproom

Posted by Foobooz on 5th November 2008

In today’s Metro, The Bite takes a look at some November openings including Prohibition Taproom.

The red neon “BAR” sign invites neighborhood folk and passers-by inside to check out the beer and food. The spot formerly held Maker’s Local and Canavan’s Pub but there’s reason to be optimistic the third time is the charm, as Café Lift owners Michael Pasquarello and Jeniphur Whitleigh are at the helm this time. The beers range from Lionshead to Allagash and pretty much everywhere in between. Gastropub fare dots the chalkboard menu, with the slow roast pork sandwich likely to become the signature dish.

Meal Ticket also has a first look and today Living on the Vedge finds love in the ProTap’s beer-battered green beans.
