Illadates Port Richmond

Port Richmond isn’t the first place to pop into most young urbanite’s mind when pondering a date, but it should! It’s a great neighborhood, the heart of the Polish American community in Philadelphia. Audrey and Mark head up there in Episode 16 to have dinner at Syrenka, one of the most famous Polish restaurants in town. They ride the historic trolley Route 15 up there and have a beer at Byrne’s Tavern. Join us!

New Wave Polish

Posted by Foobooz on 9th July 2007

PhillyFoodGuys head to Port Richmond’s New Wave Cafe (no relation to the Queen Village waiting room for Dmitri’s) to get some authentic Polish food.

The entrees were simple and delicious. “The Pierogies are just like I remember them,” mentioned Patti, whose mom used to make them at home. Fried in butter with a cheese and potato filling, these dumplings eclipsed any version that I’ve previously sampled. I found the firm exterior and the filling soft, similar to a large ravioli.

The Other New Wave

New Wave Cafe Port Richmond

The sign outside may say it’s a restaurant, bar and disco but at the New Wave Cafe in Port Richmond, you’ll come for the pierogies and other authentic Polish standards like kielbasa and borscht.
