Orange Placard Alert

Posted by Foobooz on 17th November 2008

On our way to check out the new Thai Chef & Noodle Fusion Friday, we noticed that 2006 Chestnut, former home to Arch Electronics has a liquor license for Jolly’s Rockin Piano Bar. We’ve heard Jolly has been looking for a new location and it seems this set-back storefront is the location.

One Bald Man Leaves for L.A., Another Comes to Center City?

Posted by Kirsten Henri on 13th October 2008

As mentioned on Friday, one half of Foobooz has dropped everything to follow his beloved Phils to Los Angeles. So that leaves you all with the other half of Foobooz, who doesn’t know a bat from a puck drop and has a rotten sense of direction. I do have other redeeming qualities though, like a sharp eye for orange signs!

While cruising by the old West Coast Video at 212 S. 15th Street between Walnut and Locust, I spotted a license transfer application, posted October 9th. The entity applying for the license transfer was Max Brenner, Inc. Could it be Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man? Which is not really a he, but an Israeli chocolate company with shops in Australia, Southeast Asia and two branches in New York, one of which Frank Bruni at the New York Times reviewed and gave no stars

Still, can more chocolate ever be a bad thing?

Quick Bites

Posted by Foobooz on 3rd April 2008

Progress continues to be made at Earth Bread + Brewery where they’ve recently posted a photo album that chronicles the construction.

Frank Imbarlina was supposed to be the chef at Time but he’s out before they opened. Stepping in will be Keith Murphy who is currently the chef at Jason and Delphine Evenchik’s Vintage. [The Clog]

In other chef movement, pastry chef Peter Scarola is set to leave the Inn at St. Peters Village and is headed to Rae.

Orange Alert, Pat Bombino’s has a liquor license application in the window.

In other window based news, a paper sign in the window on 20th Street across from Twenty Manning notes that a Japanese restaurant, Yoshi is coming soon.

Phoodie.info has a photo of the refurbed upstairs dining room at the North Star Bar. Well we think they do. It might be a photo of someone’s living room. [Phoodie.info]

Orange Alert!: 2101 Chestnut Street

Posted by Kirsten Henri on 7th March 2008

Ah, that brilliant orange gleam, beckoning us from a Center City window. There’s just nothing like a public notice of application to sell alcoholic beverages to get our hearts racing.

We happened upon this one hanging in the window of 2101 Chestnut Street, in the ground floor of the River West condo building, across the street from the pending El Fuego. For the love of liquor, what’s going in there? Not sure yet, but we’ve traced the license transfer application back to one of the owners of Soho Pizza in Old City. More to come…
