No Ludwig’s, No Problem

Posted by Foobooz on 18th August 2008

We lament the demise of the Germanic roots of the Midtown Village’s Fall Festival but it is with great joy that we report that Philadelphia will indeed have a proper Oktoberfest this year. From 1 to 5 pm on September 27th, the 23rd Street Armory will be the setting for authentic German food, music and beer. Speaking of beer, Spaten will headline the more than 50 beer choices from German and craft American brewers.

Tickets will be $45, $75 VIP option is also available and will soon be available online.

Midtown Fall Festival ‘08 Set

Posted by Foobooz on 7th August 2008

The 3rd Annual Midtown Village Fall Festival has been announced for Saturday, October 4th. 13th Street will be closed between Chestnut and Walnut, as well as Sansom from Juniper to 12th and Drury Lane.

There will be international cuisine, beverage tents and booths for retailers.

But there won’t be Ludwig’s. The Fall festival started as Ludwig’s Oktoberfest but with the bar’s closing the festival will lose its Germanic origins. Have no fear though, we expect an announcement of big new Oktoberfest any day now.

Plenty Of Fests Left For October

Posted by Foobooz on 5th October 2007

Joe Sixpack gives the lowdown on where to enjoy some German beers and wursts around the area.

Dozens of restaurants and taverns throughout the region are celebrating the wedding of Prince Ludwig and the lovely Therese (don’t worry, I didn’t get an invitation either) with dinners and German beer specials. Oktoberfest has grown so much, you’re even beginning to hear oompah music in Irish bars.

More Than Just Oktoberfest

Posted by Foobooz on 12th September 2006

Fall Festival At 13th & Sansom

Ludwig’s annual Oktoberfest is getting bigger this year, and a bit less German. This year Oktoberfest will just be one part of the Fall Festival At 13th & Sansom.

  • Ludwig’s Oktoberfest will feature 12 German beers on tap outside and another 25 inside. There will be a 12-piece German band playing authentic music and a roast pig.
  • Fergie’s Pub will feature a traditional Irish music session as well as a rock band.
  • McGillins Olde Ale House will celebrate St. Practice Daze halfway to St. Patrick’s Day with live Irish music, green beer, Irish food favorites and Oktoberfest beers.
  • Vintage will serve grilled food, wines from around the world and Stella Artois outside. Inside, a special autumn menu will complement the extensive, international wine and beer selection.

Other nearby restaurants and stores will also be participating.

McGillin’s Octoberfest

Posted by Foobooz on 18th August 2006

At McGillin’s Olde Ale House, Octoberfest begins on August 20.
McGillin’s Olde Ale House, the city’s oldest continuously operating tavern, will expand its selection of German beers and add German foods to the menu, through September 30. In addition to the large selection of local and regional beers always on tap, McGillin’s will serve Stoudt’s Fest, Sam Adam’s Octoberfest, Flying Fish’s Octoberphish and Paulaner’s traditional Octoberfest beers. German dishes will be added to the lunch and dinner menus to accompany the heavy German lagers.

More of the menu after the jump.
