Deal With This

Posted by Foobooz on 5th May 2009

bindi_drinksThe Center City District’s mid-May email arrived today with a swell coupon. No, we’re not talking about the free lip balm from Kiehl’s, although maybe we just did. What we’re trying to focus on is the Bindi coupon for a free pitcher of Indian-inspired mixer. Bring your own vodka, rum or tequila and mix it all together.

The current mixes mentioned on the web site are:

  • nimbu-pani - Indian style pomegranate-ginger lemonade
  • mango sharbat – mango puree, lime, green cardamom

Each is a $12 value.

13th Street Still Booming

Posted by Foobooz on 4th May 2009

Audrey Taichman is looking to open a second branch of her Audrey Claire at the corner of 13th and Sansom. Next door Marcie Turney and Valeri Safran are looking to expand their 13th Street empire with Verde, a flower and chocolate shop where Robins Books used to be. Also in the works is another restaurant next door at 110 S 13th Street. This spot will be Mediterranean and will feature a wood burning stove as well as the couple’s first liquor license.

What makes this all the more fun is that Turney used to work for Taichman at the original Audrey Claire.

Restaurant Yenta: Starr Struck Again?

Posted by Kirsten Henri on 13th October 2008

Well, Stephen Starr, you certainly are keeping our rumor-mongering restaurant yenta crew busy these days. First with the takeover of the Broad Street Diner and its potential Greek-ness and now we hear that you may have purchased the Letto Deli in the Midtown Gayborhood.

Readers may be familiar with the spot at 208 S. 13th Street between Walnut and Locust Streets – it’s basically half a block from Woody’s and about two blocks from another SRO spot, El Vez.

So what do you think Starr should do with the place, assuming this is true? Will he revive the gastropub idea he killed on Chestnut? A third Continental? The first official Starr Gay Bar? What does 13th Street not have that it needs?

Please do tell us your thoughts.
