Living on the Vedge hits up the new Cantina at Distrito menu before a movie at the Bridge. She finds the vegetarian options better than Distrito’s past efforts, what isn’t there to like about portabella tacos and Mission style quesadillas.
But the real zinger is her description of a typical (not Distrito) margarita.
First up, the $5 Cantina Margarita, a formidable reminder that not all margs taste like the dirty bathwater of Sour Patch Kids. Even the lowliest margarita on Distrito’s roster is a goddamn blessing.
The new lower priced downstairs Cantina at Distrito has had its menus finalized and we’ve got them. Check out what tacos and quesadillas you can get for just $6.
We here at Foobooz World Headquarters love maps. In fact, last night we were geocoding 800+ restaurants just for fun. Well maybe not just for fun but anyway – we especially love Google Mash-ups that display all sorts of fun food-related stuff.
And Phoodie links out to four very cool ones that mash up BYOBs, burritos, beer and beef-free offerings.
Honest Tom’sTaco Shop tweeted yesterday that they’re taking their truck on the road, this week stationing the vehicle at Broad and South. We took advantage of a lull in this morning’s apocalyptic downpour and sprinted down to the corner at about 7:45am. We watched lightning strike and the rain come down for 25 minutes or so but no sign of Honest Tom. Not that we blame him for lying low till the locusts receded but he claims he’ll be at the corner of BroSo all week from 8am to 2pm.
Lolita BBQ Monday is back for the summer. Each Monday through the summer the Midtown Village Mexican BYOB will be offering a different barbecue menu. The price is $35 per person and don’t forget your tequila, the fresh pureed watermelon-mint mix is back on the menu.
This Monday the theme is “Pig Out.” Check out the menu after the jump.
Craig LaBan visits Que Chula es Puebla, a fine taqueria far from the South Philly “Taco Belt” but still worthy of two bells.
LaBan no longer has a favorite Philadelphia taqueria but rather favorite destinations depending on the dish.
Tacos al pastor – Los Taquitos de Puebla
Green chile pozole – Restaurant Acapulco
Barbacoa tacos and huitlacoche quesadillas – La Lupe
What dish would recommend at Que Chula es Puebla? Perhaps the special Sunday pozole.
The stew brought fistfuls of tender cubed pork (with just the right amount of fat still on) and puffy kernels of hominy corn in a guajillo-red broth layered with bay leaf and thyme. Scattered at the table with a fresh “verdura” of minced onions and oregano, plus a squirt of lime, each spoonful was a fiesta of contrasting textures and earthy savor.
