Get Happy, the former Kildare’s on 2nd Street closed yesterday after a disagreement with Kildare’s founder Dave Magrogan over the liquor license. Get Happy had been running with the at Kildare’s license since it opened back in January.
Owners Paul and Christine Lauriello just emailed out this note.
To Our Valued Guests and Friends,
Get Happy Pub and Restaurant was forced to close on Wednesday, April 8th when Dave Magrogan and the Kildare’s group came and took the liquor license that we were operating under. When we refused to sign a questionable agreement written by Dave, the “deal” was off.
We apologize for the abrupt closing! Be assured that the Lauriello family is working hard to re-open as soon as we can to continue to serve our friends and guests. We appreciate the support during our first 3 months of operation. The local support from the neighborhood allows us to continue the quest towards independence from Dave Magrogan & Kildares.
We hope that shortly we will be able to spread the Get Happy Spirit once again in the Society Hill Neighborhood!
Paul & Christine Lauriello

Kildare’s Headhouse Square location is no longer affiliated with its corporate overlord and is reopening today as Get Happy.
We’ve been told a partner in Kildare’s and his wife have taken over the former Pizzeria Uno. The employees and beer taps remain the same. The food menu will change with an emphasis on “homemade food” and hours will be shortened to Tuesday through Saturday.

Luke Wilson was spotted drinking
Blue Moons last night at
Kildare’s in Manayunk.
[Ed. Note: EEEEK! SQUEAL!] Blue Moons? Doesn’t Luke know Philadelphia is America’s Beer City?
Someone get this man to Monk’s.

Di Bruno Bros has added two new events to its schedule. First up is a Dogfish Head and cheese pairing. The second, on February 29th, stars the cheeses of Quebec?!
As gastronome and Fromager Affineur, Denis Cottin, travels throughout Quebec Province to select the best cheeses available in small quantities and then brings them to the 5 star chefs and specialty food stores in the United States.
As far as we’re concerned, the best milk product from up north is the cheese curd, which is used to make poutine, a Quebecois feast of French fries, squeaky cheese curds and dense brown gravy. Considering it involves such heart-attack-inducing ingredients, we’re surprised it’s not a native Philadelphia dish. If you can’t make it to Montreal, Kildare’s in Headhouse Square has poutine on the menu.
