As you may have noticed we’ve been kind of vacationing this week but we wanted to make sure you checked out Joe Sixpack’s article today. Joe gives a good rundown of what went wrong at Indepence Brew Pub, $43,000 a month rent for one. But the cool note he has is that Johnny Brenda’s is going to be at the Linc this fall. We’re having a hard time getting our brains around that but we’ll definitely try the grilled pork and meatball sandwiches when we get down there.

Even as we salivate looking forward to pizzas and beer in West Philadelphia, Center City’s Independence Brew Pub closes its doors for good. Dan Gross has some more details on why it happened.

Frank Keel, spokesman for the Redevelopment Authority, which owns the building, says Independence Brew Pub, and its parent company, GS Capital LP of Wayne, were “severely delinquent on rent,” owing about $800,000. The company made “intermittent payments,” which explains why it hadn’t been closed sooner. The rent dispute dates back nearly five years, Keel says.

Joe Sixpack reports the Independence Brew Pub at the Reading Terminal has closed.

Independence Brew Pub in Center City was shut down on Friday (8/10). No details yet, but employees, including brewer Tim Roberts (who was in the middle of a brew at the time), were evicted with no notice. Signs on the door say the closure is temporary. This does not look good.
