Yesterday the Foobooz Burger Cruise for the First Person Festival set sail and it sure was fun. Thanks to First Person Arts for approaching me for the tour and to everyone who came out. It was an awesome time.
A synopsis follows with notes about the burgers and beer.

500° storefront on Sansom St
If you thought the burger craze of the summer was over you are sadly mistaken. The Bite looks into how it’s continuing this fall and doesn’t even get into the $7.17 Kobe beef burger at Union Trust or 500°, the burger shop by the Rouge owners that is planned for Sansom Street.
Want to enjoy some of Center City Philadelphia’s favorite burgers, then check out the Foobooz Burger Cruise this Tuesday. We’re hitting up Barclay Prime, Good Dog, Noble: American Cookery and Pub & Kitchen. Get your tickets here.

The most expensive burger in town has been the Whiskey King at Jose Garces’ Village Whiskey but starting next Wednesday, you’ll be able to pay more for the World F*cking Champion burger at P.Y.T.
In time for game one of the World Series Tommy Up will be debuting an 8 ounce venison patty topped with foie gras and served with sweet potato chips and a sparkler for $25.
In other P.Y.T. related news, Mac & Cheese gives a run down on the veggie and boozy options at the Northern Liberties burger lounge.

Drew Lazor checks out Elevation Burger, the environmentally friendly burger chain that has opened its first local location in Wynnewood. Here’s hoping he took the train.
Single-source, organic, free-range, grass-fed beef is the restaurant’s biggest point of pride, so I tried it in the signature Elevation Burger, a double patty layered with cheddar and your choice of toppers (I picked lettuce, tomato pickles and a zingy balsamic mustard, but there’s also stuff like caramelized onions, hot pepper relish and the tomato-based “Elevation Sauce”). The burger’s lean ground-in-house meat was round in natural beef flavor, but my patties tasted slightly dry — likely a result of their across-the-board cook-to-well policy. I easily squished the bun into submission, and it didn’t draw attention away from the main meat attraction, the way a good burger bun should.

Village Whiskey has been open a week now and there’s been a lot of discussion of the $24 Whiskey King burger but none of that talk has been in the form of a Haiku. We fix that now!
