Back in the early days of Northern Liberties, way before all the condos and Rita’s and bowling alleys the fridge behind the bar at the
Standard Tap used to pour $2
Yuengling’s Lord Chesterfield Ale and we have to say, it has kept a special place in our heart since. But then Yuengling Lager blew up and America’s oldest brewery stopped kegging Lord Chesterfield and the Tap switched the fridge over to Yards Philly Pale Ale.
But low and behold Lord Chesterfield is back on tap! It’ll be debuting not at the Standard Tap but at the Grey Lodge in Mayfair on Friday September 12th at 6 PM.

The Grey Lodge brings back Christmas or at least Christmas beers this Friday night with their Christmas in July event. There will be Christmas beers on tap and in bottle. If we get our hands on a bottle of that Sly Fox Christmas ale, it really will be like Christmas morning.
Full List after the jump.

Today the Grey Lodge hosts Friday the Firkinteenth®.” And just what the heck is Friday the Firkinteenth®? Well it is of course a nonsensical celebration of each Friday the 13th. So starting at noon today the Scoats and the rest of the good folk at the Grey Lodge keep seven firkins of unusual beers on the bar until they run out. And with 20+ firkins listed on their web site, that probably won’t be until well into the night.

The
Grey Lodge would be a great place because of their beer selection and generally cool attitude but they take it to a whole other level with their Friday specials. Tonight they’re celebrating St. Andrew, patron saint of Scotland with Scottish beers, Scotch whisky and even some Scottish food.
Details after the jump.

Has
Esquire lost it? A year after they named
Grey Lodge and
Southwark as two of the best bars in America the magazine has a new list for 2007. And the lone Philadelphia contribution to the list is the
Friendly Lodge at 8th and Washington.
Neighborhood bar, 1950s. Dirty and magical. From the outside, it looks vacant. But that’s the beauty. No burgers here. No mussels. No Abercrombie. No Fitch. Here’s what they have: ashtrays in front of every stool. Three-dollar Budweisers. Good jukebox. A clogged sink in the bathroom. And a cute salt-of the-earth bartender. Heaven.
Not to get too snobby, but come on, Buds and a clogged sink? We’ll be investigating this weekend.

Friday the Thirteenth is supposed to be bad luck but not at the
Grey Lodge. Instead, everyone’s favorite Northeast beer bar turns the day into one big party. Seven small casks (firkins) are pouring at a time. When one kicks another is tapped. The Grey Lodge record is 18.5, but they’re looking to break that today.
All the fun starts at noon today, so get ready to explain to your boss that your Triskaidekaphobia is really flaring up and you have to leave work.
