Quest For Cheeseburger Perfection

Posted by Foobooz on 24th May 2007

Good Dog Burger

Craig LaBan has been busy searching for Philadelphia’s best burger, and the journey has spurred him to pen a song.

I remember: Krazy Jim’s Blimpy Burgers, Mo’s in Frisco, In-N-Out

Barclay’s sliders, Rouge’s biggies, on the Boardwalk I love Brown’s

Burger Heaven in Manhattan, Tommy’s Westwood chile bombs

Midnight snacks at the Camellia, in the Quarter Port of Call

But then the Good Dog Bar turned my patties inside out

So when I took a bite, love came rushing out.

Good Dog Bar & Restaurant

Posted by Foobooz on 4th December 2006

Good Dog Bar

Craig LaBan visits the Good Dog Bar and Restaurant at 224 S 15th Street and finds one of Philadelphia’s most inventive gastro-pubs and its best burger.

Nothing, though, quite moved me like the Good Dog’s burgers, a perfectly juicy balance of primal pleasure and clever cookery that spurred my dinner guest to write a haiku about it the next day. Coincidentally, I had already begun mine. In particular, about the startling moment I took a bite of GD’s signature burger topped with caramelized onions and discovered that its perfectly seasoned, lithely handled meat had been miraculously stuffed with a wellspring of molten bleu cheese.
