Posted by Foobooz on 15th July 2009

exit11

Tonight, Flying Fish is debuting the latest in their Exit Series of beers. Exit 11 (the intersection of the Turnpike and the Garden State Expressway) is a hoppy American Wheat and you will be able to find it tonight from 7 to 9pm at the Swift Half and Varga Bar. It will also debut at both Foodery locations if you want to take it home with you.

The Flying Fish Exit Series has created a lot of buzz for the Cherry Hill brewery including raising the ire of MADD and prompting an Associated Press video piece. Today Grub Street interviews Flying Fish owner, Gene Muller.

Beer News To Go

Posted by Foobooz on 21st May 2009

Bella Vista Beer Distributors have a cool new thing, it’s their Beer Exchange Program. Buy a case of American craft beer and swap a bottle from your case for one of the beers you’ll find at the counter. A great way to try a new beer. [Restaurant Club]

Joe Sixpack confirms that the Foodery is looking for a third location. Likely locales include, Manayunk, Chestnut Hill or Roxborough. [Beer Radar]

The Northeast gets a high-end takeout store this weekend as the Craft Beer Outlet opens at Morrell Plaza Shopping Center at Frankford and Knights Road. [Beer Radar]

And when did Latimer Deli become big beer bottle heaven? The 15th Street bodega, probably best known as the cigarette store next to McGlinchey’s now has more than half an aisle dedicated to big bottles from Europe and the United States. [twitpic]

Embrace Craft Beer

Posted by Foobooz on 14th March 2007

Kirsten Henri has a novel solution to dealing with the state liquor control board’s monopoly, don’t. Drink beer instead!

There’s no need to spin this excellent local product. Craft beer offers sophistication without pomposity and has just as many (if not more) complex flavor profiles and textures as wine.

You want great customer service? Head to a beer store like the Foodery, and employees like Jeff Slick will expertly guide you using actual beer knowledge and a genuine love of the product. And if you just want something quick, you can buy beer at your local deli with little fanfare. The point is you have the choice.

Most bars here have local beer to offer—maybe it’s just Yuengling Lager, but often you’ll find excellent selections from Yards, Stoudt’s, Sly Fox, Victory, Lancaster and Troegs. Beer is a big part of our local history. Before Prohibition, Philadelphia was a tremendous beer town with a slew of breweries, many operated by German immigrants. In fact, the first American lager was brewed here in 1840. We’re a beer burg—not a wine town.
