Way back in March we celebrated that the former Kitchen USA at 20th and Spruce was being remade as Food & Friends Neighborhood Market. But what had us most excited in March, the row of coolers dedicated to craft, national and international takeout beer section has sat empty. But not anymore, the coolers were being stocked yesterday and will be on sale today.

This week The Bite takes a look at two new markets opening in Center City, the Union Gourmet Market & Cafe and Food & Friends Neighborhood Market. Food & Friends may open as soon as today at 20th and Spruce. We witnessed produce being stocked early this morning.

Once again, Drew Lazor of the Citypaper has been working while we’ve been drinking… he has updates on Time, Earth Bread & Brewery and, most important for lamenters of the recently deceased Wawa at 20th & Locust, the scoop on what is going on at the former Kitchen USA at 20th & Spruce Streets, which will now be known as Food & Friends Neighborhood Market:
The space will have a high-end feel — gourmet sandwiches and groceries, artisanal cheeses, organic produce, La Colombe coffee and more. The best news of all? One half of the market will be dedicated to takeaway beer — local, national and international choices…
As former customers of KUSA, we applaud this change.
