We have an ongoing debate, what’s worse, to be a tool or a douche? Whatever side the debate you fall on we have the feeling there will be a lot of both at these two openings this weekend. Strongbox reopens Friday with the decidedly not-douchey/tooly DJ Jazzy Jeff scheduled to make an appearance. And Saturday sees the unveiling of Recess Lounge in Old City. [Grub Street]

We told you about JL Sullivan’s turning into Tavern on Broad last week. Now comes word that former Union Trust chef Terry White will be working the kitchen. [Meal Ticket]

Famous 4th Street Deli has opened on 19th Street. The Bainbridge Street institution is bringing their same menu to the Center City West location. [Meal Ticket]

A pie diner? Why that’s exactly what we’ll be getting with Sweetie’s Pie Diner at 1822 Spring Garden come October. Sweet and savory pies plus salads and soups. [Meal Ticket]

The signs are up at the Famous 4th Street Deli’s 19th Street location. Two weeks out is the best guess. [The Insider]

The Sidecar Bar & Grille gets nods of approval for its upstairs expansion. There will be a bar and dining area but no outdoor deck. [Meal Ticket]

Private opening of the Penthouse Club on Castor Avenue is set for August 7th. [Icepack, City Paper]

Coo’s Sports Bar on North Broad is promising a late August opening with 32 flat-screen TVs and 20 beers on tap.

Gordon Ramsay and the owners of Hot Potato Cafe were on Fox 29’s Good Day this morning. Watch the video to find out what Ramsay thinks of the food in the green room. [Fox 29]

Finally an answer for what’s coming to the handsome rehab at 2028 Fairmount Ave. Meze, an organic restaurant with chef Tim Bellew of MANNA catering and Fire in Cherry Hill will be in the kitchen. Opening set for after Labor Day. [The Insider]

Jaunted names Famous 4th Street Delicatessen Philadelphia’s best Jewish deli. [Jaunted via MenuPages]

Big week for Capogiro. The East Passyunk location opened and now the West Philadelphia storefront is open in the Radian building. The University City store will be different since in a week or two it will have a liquor license and will be pouring wines, beers and concocting gelato and sorbet cocktails. [The Insider]

Corned Beef Report

reuben_little_petesNeil Parish who owns the Kibitz Room in Cherry Hill will be opening a Center City location at 1521 Locust Street in a couple of weeks. [Meal Ticket]

The Insider reports a second Famous 4th Street Deli is in the works, this one for 19th Street. Currently the spot at 38 S 19th Street is home to Ashoka Palace but will be serving corned beef by July. [The Insider]

And Drawing For Food declares that the reuben at Little Pete’s is the best in the city, whether ordered at 2am or any other time of the day or night. [Drawing for Food]

The bar and lounge Knock at 12th and Locust has had a soft opening and look for Jose Pistolas to open next Wednesday. [Table Talk, Philadelphia Inquirer]

Swallow on Liberties Walk is now looking at a post Labor Day opening rather than late August. The interior “will be an homage to a Parisian brothel, a nod to Northern Liberties’ history as a red-light district.” [Feeding Frenzy, City Paper]

Wolfgang’s Steakhouse out of New York is in talking about opening a Philadelphia outpost at 2040 Market St., the former headquarters of AAA. [Inqlings, Philadelphia Inquirer]

Chima, the Brazilian steakhouse that was announced just about the same time as Fogo de Chao is talking about opening its 20th and JFK location in “the first trimester of 2008.” [Inqlings, Philadelphia Inquirer]

Starting Wednesday, September 5th Shank’s & Evelyn’s will be open for dinner. “Expect to see a full menu of traditional Italian fare, from veal marsala to fettucine alfredo, with a hefty selection of chef’s specialties thrown in.” [Eat Beat, Philadelphia Weekly]
