Good Bars To Watch Sports In

Posted by Foobooz on 11th October 2007

Barristers downstairs bar

City Paper asks if there are any good spots to watch sports in this city. A surprisingly difficult question. But luckily for us they came up with some varied and decent answers.

Are there any places in this city where a discerning sports fan can go to see a game, drink good beer, enjoy decent grub and not have to listen to the rantings of overemotional lunatics? Are there bars here — not sports bars, necessarily, just good bars — that serve up both plenty of college and pro football action and a decent atmosphere?

Behind The Label Of Private Label Beers

Posted by Foobooz on 22nd September 2006

Wingwalker Beers

Joe Sixpack gets behind the label of house brands of beer finds many of those private labels aren’t that private.

For instance Inn Flight Steak and Seafood Grilles number two selling beer, Wingwalker Ale, is really just Yards Extra Special Ale. Willie Sutton Lager at Fairmount’s London Grill is really Stoudt’s Fest.

The bars look at the private label as a way to differentiate themselves, often with a fancy label and interesting back story. For breweries, it’s a way to sell more beer.

Now not all house brews are just gussied up local beers, both Monk’s Cafe and Eulogy have had special beers brewed for them to their own specifications.

As covered here earlier, Eulogy is searching for a Busty Blonde to appear on the label of their Busty Blonde beer. The Metro adds some details to the story but it’s not online. Luckily Philadelphia Will Do is on the case with a scan of the article, witty commentary, and an absolutely necessary photo of Pamela Anderson.

Good Beer For Gals

Posted by Foobooz on 6th June 2006

Ludwig's Garten

Noted Philly beer gal Suz, you may know her from Eulogy, is getting together a group of ladies interested in beer. And we’re not talking Miller Lite here, rather good beer. The first meeting is tomorrow, 7:30 PM at Ludwig’s. On the agenda tomorrow is choosing a name for the group, food and beer parings, brewery field trips, festival trips, and even home-brewing.
The group will meet every other Wednesday, at a different bar each time. For more information contact Suzanne directly.
