Ekta has opened on Girard Ave in Fishtown and we’ve been hearing good buzz. A tipster likes the place better than Tiffin and even scanned the menu for us.
Check out the menu after the jump.

City Paper gives the lowdown on
Franco’s Trattoria, the recently opened Italian in East Falls.
While capitalizing on the building’s existing strengths, Franco’s also seems to have taken a different tack than its predecessor by keeping the food simple and straightforward, a parade of red-sauced pastas, thin-pounded meats and other South Philly familiars. It’s the kind of menu that offers enough variety to keep you coming back, yet enough sameness to be comforting. Portion size is large, and with a number of wines available by the glass in the $6 to $8 range, dinner here is a good value.

This Thursday a group calling themselves the Full Mooners is offering free beer from 8 to 10 PM at the Marketplace at East Falls. Among the beers being poured are Victory, Dogfish Head, He’Brew, Oskar Blues and more. A $20 donation to charity is requested.
We don’t have much more information than that but it certainly sounds intriguing.
Flyer after the jump.

Last week John Chaney was spotted taking advantage of the Pour House in East Falls’ all you can eat crab night. Can’t guarantee that the coach will be back this week, but the crabs are still there.

Tavern owners are uniting to raise money for the family of Philadelphia Police Officer Gary Skerski, who was killed in May when he tried to break up a robbery in a Lower Northeast bar.
“We thought, as bar owners, there has been a lot of violence in the city,” said George Flocco, owner of the Pour House Tavern in East Falls. “The Philadelphia Police Department is out there risking their lives on a daily basis, and we wanted to do something for them.”
Flocco intends to form partnerships with a large number of area bar/restaurants and taverns, and, come Thursday night, each will charge a $5 cover fee.
Each bar will then donate those proceeds to a Skerski family fund.
“The police [take risks] for us, on a regular basis,” said Flocco, whose tavern opened last year. “And when you see an officer die in the line of duty protecting another bar, we wanted to do something.”

The menu’s signature dish may be the
Flocco Burger, fried onions, crisp bacon, and cheese whiz. Sound too healthy? Then go for the Big A** Burger, a pound of beef, clean your plate and receive a Pour House t-shirt.
