Neighbors Paved Way For Dock Street

Posted by Foobooz on 8th December 2006

Following a letter writing campaign and the general outrage of neighbors, things are full steam ahead for the Dock Street Brewing Co.

Dock Street owner Rosemarie Certo said she almost had to forego the Baltimore Avenue commercial-corridor location before the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment offered Dock Street a 10-year permit last Thursday.

The ZBA originally granted the company a five-year probationary permit, which was not long enough to adequately finance the restaurant.

“It just makes the business now possible, and it’s full speed ahead,” Certo said. “I was dumbfounded. ? No one thought it was gonna happen, and, literally at the very last minute,” the board changed its decision.

Dock Street Back In Business

According to a poster on PhillyBlog.com the Dock Street Brewery project is back on. According to the poster, gailandrea, the zoning board has faxed over a 10 year land use permit to Dock Street’s attorney which was holding up the bank’s financing of the project. With that roadblock out of the way and the nearby church placated, Dock Street is hoping for a Spring opening.

Brewpubs On The Horizon

Posted by Foobooz on 17th November 2006

Joe Sixpack’s Beer Radar has recently highlighted a couple of Philadelphia brewpubs that are planning on opening soon.

Triumph Brewing’s Brewpub at 117 Chestnut Street has received its brewing equipment and hopes to be open in January. Decorated brewer Patrick Jones, will be moving from the Triumph in New Hope to take control of the Old City spot.

Have you been wondering where the brewing equipment that was part of the Red Bell Brew Pub at the Wachovia Center wound up? Well Joe Beddia, formerly of Yards is planning on opening a brew pub on the Northern Liberties/Kensington border. Brasseries des Mars will brew farmhouse-style ales, like Saison Dupont, and serve a limited menu of specialty cheese and cured meats. No timetable for this one.

As for the Dock Street Brew Pub, news isn’t so good. According to Gail Fisher of the University City District the project is in “critical condition.” The zoning board only approved a five year land use permit, and the bankers are balking at financing the project, demanding a ten year permit. Check out Philly Blog’s Dock Street rumors thread for more.
