PieHoleGate: The Investigation

Posted by Kirsten Henri on 29th September 2008

We would never want to steer you wrong at Foobooz. If we tell you there’s going to be free pie somewhere, there will dang well be free pie! After several commenters, as well as a few other pals who were on the scene, let us know there was no free pie as promised at the ‘Pushing Daisies’ Mobile Pie Hole, we took it back to the Pie Hole People. After the jump, the communication and an explanation.

Sticky Weather Reprieves

Posted by Foobooz on 4th September 2008

Philadining declares an Awesomeness Alert for the Espresso Granita from Capogiro. And at $3.50 it’s an absolute bargain for the pricey gelato spot. [The Philadining Blog]

We’re not sure how long Scoop DeVille has been at 18th and Chestnut but when you walk in it feels like it has been there forever. UWISHUNU provides the 411 for the uninitiated and drops this golden nugget that even we didn’t know. Scoop DeVille delivers, Vine to Pine, 21st to Broad. [UWISHUNU]

We visited Phileo for the first time as they were just trying to close up but they were nice enough to let us in anyway. Tried the tart banana, strawberry and mango yogurts swirled together topped off with some granola. We haven’t had Pinkberry in New York but we’ll be back for more Phileo.

Phileo Yogurt

Phileo, Philadelphia’s answer to Pinkberry popped up under the radar in the last week on South Street. Both Living On The Vedge and beXnlog have been there though to give us the lowdown on the self-serve frozen yogurt spot.

Dessert At Table 31

Posted by Foobooz on 17th July 2008

Table 31

Rick Nichols may not be happy with the lobster roll at Table 31 but he has some nice words for dessert.

But tradition is tweaked with happier result in the dessert trio of mini-ice cream cones – crisp, rolled, house-made tuile cookies redolent of crushed almond or raspberry. Daily ice creams include an intense burnt-sugar caramel you can dip in a side of hot chocolate sauce. Or try coconut sorbet. Luscious! Or the watermelon, a stunningly refreshing riff on the original.

Frozen Drinking Chocolate

The Bite this week dives into cool refreshing options for what to do when the heat and humidity just get to be too much. There are plenty of choices from a frozen drinking chocolate at Naked Chocolate Cafe, gelato at Capogiro, a Lightning Rod of a sundae at Franklin Fountain or kick it old school with a cup of cherry from John’s Water Ice.

Everyone’s Talking About The Violet Crumble

Posted by Foobooz on 18th October 2007

Craig LaBan agrees with Finding Philly about the Violet Crumble milkshake at Ants Pants Cafe.

The chocolate-covered Violet Crumble, a smooth Aussie take on the honeycomb-filled British “Crunchie,” lends an almost malted flavor and textural snap to this frozen vanilla-bean elixir. Add a pouf of homemade caramel whip, and you can slurp your way into a creamy Down Under sugar buzz.

Ant’s Pants Is The Cat’s Meow

Violet Crumble Milkshake at Ants Pants Cafe

Finding Philly is seriously gripped by the Violet Crumble Milkshake served up at Ants Pants Cafe in G-Ho.

Words cannot do it justice. It’s too small by far. I ordered two of them this morning. Get it with the whipped cream, it’s the real stuff. I could try for hours to describe it but I’m not going to because I’ll get hungry for it again. Go get one!
