The world’s appetite for Irish bars is insatiable. As a friend once said, to be Irish is to be able to travel the world and to know you can always get a job in an Irish bar. Maurice Collins and Liam Kelly who started the nearby Tir na Nog have opened Con Murphy’s at 17th and the Parkway.

Stephen Starr is seeking an executive chef for a new Latin cuisine restaurant. [Grub Street]

Con Murphy’s officially opens today at 17th and the Parkway. It has been in a soft opening mode for a couple of days now.

Coo’s is having their official grand opening this Saturday with a masquerade party. [Beer Lass]

Coup de Taco’s fusion style tacos will be serving up tacos from Penn’s campus starting on Monday. [Meal Ticket]

The Aspen is coming back as Lucky 7 . It should be more bar than restaurant in this incarnation. [Beer Lass and the Insider]

Marty Grims who just opened Chew Man Chu is looking to open Timber in Abington at the spot that formerly housed Inn Flight. [Restaurant Club]

Two new restaurants are coming to West Chester. Nonna’s: A Giunta Tradition is going to be serving up Italian food next Spring. Indian Thai Spice Bistro is offering 85 seats and two kitchens, one for Indian, the second for Thai. [West Chester Dish]

Chew Man Chu is a new dumpling, noodle and wok restaurant replacing Marty Grim’s DuJour at the Symphony House at Broad and Pine. Tyson Wong Ophaso is the chef with extensive experience in France, New York, Los Angeles and now in Philadelphia. He’ll also run Marty Grim’s Commerce Square restaurant which is looking like 2010. Grub Street has details on Square 1682 in the Kimpton Hotel at 17th and Sansom. Former Charlie Trotter second-in-command, Guillermo Tellez will be the chef. Sounds promising. [Grub Street]

Texas Wieners is opening in Collingswood. Grand opening of the long time South Philadelphia staple is September 12th.

A.D. Amorosi says Strongbox is coming back September 10th. Maybe this should be in the Bad News edition? [Ice Pack, City Paper]

Con Murphy’s is the name of the Irish bar heading to 17th and the Parkway next month. [The Insider]

The Institute begins brunch service this Sunday. Look for good Yards deals too.
