This will be the last weekend of the
Black Door. Owner Bill Schmidt is closing the doors after what has to be considered a successful run at the cursed Northeast corner of 2nd and Bainbridge. Schmidt isn’t getting out of the bar business though, he expects to open
Players on March 1st at 19th and Passyunk. You may remember the Players name from the bar he previously owned, just down the block from the Black Door.

Halloween is coming and plenty of bars and restaurants are hosting parties. Over the next couple of days Foobooz will be highlighting many of them.
It shouldn’t be any surprise that the Devil’s Alley is hosting a Halloween party this Saturday. The Alley’s Heaven and Hell party will feature two DJs, drink specials, a heavenly upper floor and sinful first floor.
Speaking of Heaven and Hell parties, the Black Door gets into the spirit Friday night with their own version of Heaven and Hell. There will be a select open bar from 5:30-7 and discounted drinks all night for costumed angels and devils.

Looking for a good cheap burger? Try the Black Door Burger at the Black Door, 2nd and Bainbridge. At just $7 for a burger and fries, it’s one of the few sub-ten dollar gourmet burgers left out there or go with the house wings, some of the best around.
Now about dessert…. Amada has a Sly Fox Irish Stout sorbet on the menu. Someone has to tell us what that tastes like.

Troegs is doing a tasting at the new Foodery tonight. The Grey Lodge continues their 10th Anniversary celebration. And if you want a real late-night happy hour the Black Door (Second & Bainbridge) offers one from Midnight to 2 AM.
If on the other hand you’re thinking BYO and a dinner, Trio has sure been getting good reviews.

Aroundphilly.com lists their top beer joints in Philadelphia. And instead of going with the obvious Belgian spots
Eulogy and
Monks, the list is made up of a “few off-the-beaten path finds for better beers and an all-around positive imbibing experience.”
- Black Door – “a bar shines like a jewel in the crown of Queen Village.”
- South Philadelphia Tap Room – “a more uptown-type corner bar has risen to offer some of the best beers around.”
-
McMenamins Tavern – “this bar beacons to all in this comfortably diverse quarter and serves as a meeting spot for suburbanites and locals alike.”
- The Khyber – “Few rock bars offer as discerning a beer list as Old Citys long-time place to play it loud.”
- Grey Lodge Pub – “Northeast folks continue to give thumbs up to this Bridesburg pick for up-market brews.”
Foobooz adds to the list after the jump.
