Beer historian Dale Van Wieren is set to hit an impressive milestone on Saturday, November 21st at Sly Fox Brewery in Phoenixville. He will be trying and logging his 10,000th different beer.
Dale’s 10K, an “amber Pils/Dubbel/Bier de Garde hybrid of about 7.5% abv” in O’Reilly’s words, will be tapped at 5pm and Dale will then sip and make notes as his friends and an expected crowd of Sly Fox regulars and beer aficionados drawn to the historic occasion cheer him on before rushing to the bar to enjoy their own pints of 10K.
That’s pretty darn impressive.

Friday afternoon we received a note that Monday evening Pub & Kitchen would be kicking off the Phillies game with a “shotgun rally” of 100 free cans of Sly Fox Pikeland Pils. We were a bit incredulous. Had a Blackberry been compromised? Was someone pulling our leg? Was Pub & Kitchen losing its mind?
But we checked in over the weekend and it is true. Owner, Ed Hackett wants 100 people on the sidewalk shotgunning cans of Pikeland Pils t 7 tonight. Maybe it’s just the thing the Phillies need to get back on track, it’s certainly worth the try.
In other Pub & Kitchen news, the Illadelph spotted the 20th and Lombard bar in last week’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode.

Of course the World Series begins tonight but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the launch of Flying Fish’s Exit 1 Bayshore Oyster Stout as well.
There are two launch parties, from 6 to 8pm at the Oyster House and from 7 to 9pm at the Standard Tap. Both these locations typically do not have televisions but will for the World Series. The Oyster House will also be offering $1 oysters and $3 oyster shooters.

Philadelphia Magazine is reporting that Jose Garces will be taking over Letto Deli (yes, the location once reportedly going to Stephen Starr) and will be turning it into a beer and brats spot.
We love the idea of make your own brat combos with choice of sausage, bun, toppings, sauces and mustards. Not to mention there’s something very cool about that slanted-roof building. Just do us one favor Jose, make it affordable.

Bridgid’s is set to tap its “down draft,” a gravity tap where beer flows from the third to the first floor creating one smooth pour.
To celebrate they’re going to tap a 5-liter cask (20 pints) of Yards Love Stout followed by Yards ESA.
It all starts at tomorrow at 7 and you can of course hang out to make it a night with the Phillies.

Jack Van Antwerpen, President of Exports for Bosteels Brewery in Belgium is in town tonight and tomorrow. If you’re any kind of beer person you’ve enjoyed one of their beers and if you haven’t, you owe it to yourself to have one.
- Kwak is as known for its unique glass (originally designed to hang from mail coaches) as for its deep amber tastiness.
- Tripel Karmaliet is a Belgian tripel that is made with three kinds of grain; wheat, oats and barley. It’s a Foobooz favorite of favorites.
- Deus is described as a symbiosis of brewing a beer and creating a sparkling wine.
Tonight the beer and Van Antwerpen are going to be at Tria Rittenhouse and the Fermentation School. Kwak will be on draft at the 18th and Sansom location for $5.50. Bottles of Tripel Karmeliet will be $6.50 and glasses of the Deus are $7.50.
The class with Bosteels and St. Feuillien at the Fermentation School was so popular they’ve added standing room tickets. Currently there are just four tickets remaining.
Tomorrow the Pub on Passyunk East is hosting Van Antwerpen for a Bosteels night. The P.O.P.E will feature Tripel Karmaliet and Kwak on draft plus bottles of Deus from 7 to 11pm. There will also be special desserts (Belgian waffles?) available.
