An Indian Affair

Posted by Foobooz on 16th August 2006

We eat up the reviews and digest them for you so you don’t have to. Today Kirsten Henri takes a look at An Indian Affair in Manayunk.
The menu is made up of Indian standards like vindaloo and meats cooked in a tandoor oven. There are also extensive vegetarian selections. What is missing is “the deep, penetrating layers of spices that are the hallmarks of the many branches of Indian cuisine.”
The lamb korma was tender but offered no spicy counterpoint to the sweet yogurt sauce. The tandoori chicken was almost indistinguishable from the lamb.
Lamb biryani was the best dish, “soft bits of lamb served in a pot of aromatic basmati rice…the only one with a strong hit of peppery flavor, offset by bright mint.” The vegetarian panner kofta, “soft cheese dumplings sitting in a bowl of vivid spinach curry” was also tasty.
All in all the lovely atmosphere couldn’t make up for the “unimpressive food” or service mistakes.
