Keith Wallace, owner of the Philadelphia Wine School and Jason and Delphine Evenchick of Time and Vintage have joined up to create the Center City Wine School. The Wine School will be hosted at Time and will teach some of the same classes the Philadelphia Wine School is known for.
If folk music is your thing Fishtown’s your place tonight as the Beer Lass lets us know that three of Philadelphia’s “most alluring” folk acts are performing at 2424 Sudios. Oh and there will also be complimentary Sly Fox.
Saturday
It’s Philly Oktoberfest 2009 at the Armory. There are two sessions and a plethora of German beers.
It’s also Talk Like A Pirate Day and Rum Bar is celebrating like they should with $3 Captain Morgans and $2 Rum Barrel Lagers. Also celebrating TLaPD is the Grey Lodge where they’re celebrating the international holiday with Belgian Strong Ales. The Grey Lodge makes the dubious claim pirates love Begian beers.
Sunday
Tria’s Sunday School is always a good idea. Enjoy a beer, wine and cheese for 50% off. That they’re pouring Lost Abbey 10 Commandments for just $3.50 for a 13oz draft just makes it better.
Perhaps former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf consulted Craig LaBan’s out-of-the-way alfresco column when he chose to dine outdoors at Savona on Tuesday. Or perhaps he just really likes the creme brulee. After all, Dan Gross tells us it is his favorite dessert.
Flying Fish’sExit Series, which has taken us from Exit 4 to Exit 11 now heads south to Exit 1. The beers are inspired by each exit of the Turnpike. Exit 1 will be an Export Oyster Stout with Jersey Bayshore oysters. Look for it in early November.
The A Full Plate Rib Cook-Off was a great success Saturday with more than 600 people showing up behind the Piazza at Schmidt’s for all types of barbecue.
We judged the blind tasting in the professional ribs category where Tower Investments came out on top. They had a gentleman sporting cowboy boots and hat as part of their team, always a good sign when it came to barbecue.
It’s impressive how good the “amateurs” are at these competitions. They are true barbecue enthusiasts, worthy of praise.
We also decided we are quite the fans of Root liqueur and Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer.
