4th Of July Weekend

Posted by Foobooz on 3rd July 2008

Friday
The Super Scooper All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival is at Penn’s Landing Friday through Sunday. Admission is just $5 and includes all-you-can-eat frozen treats from 20 different ice cream and water ice companies.

Saturday
Saturday head back to Penn’s Landing for Taste of Philadelphia where close to 20 restaurants will be serving up samples of their fare.

We’ve discussed the Headhouse Square Farmers’ Market extensively on Foobooz but if you haven’t had a chance to try the tacos al pastor from the Los Taquitos de Puebla stand, do so. But don’t just take our word for it, check out the latest rave, this time from Blogalicious.

Sunday
After a 4th of July of barbecuing and overeating Sunday may seem like a good day for a run. And since it is still the weekend, ending your run at the General Lafayette is a great idea. The Brew Lounge has the details.

Quahog’s Seafood Shack

Posted by Foobooz on 2nd July 2008

Quahog\'s Seafood Shack

Adam Erace has nothing bad to say about Quahog’s Seafood Shack in Stone Harbor, a seafood restaurant with a conscience.

This isn’t the place for farmed salmon and Chilean sea bass. Instead executive chef/owner Lucas Manteca and his chef de cuisine Carlos Barros prepare Jersey gems like blue crabs, oysters and Great Sound steamers as well as the “trash fish” nobody wants to take to the prom. Whiting, pollock, Brazilian pacu and Atlantic croaker—a buttery weakfish relative roasted whole—are streaked with bright chimichurri and served alongside peppery watercress salad.

What Is It About Cheesesteaks?

Posted by Foobooz on 30th June 2008

Inquirer columnist Karen Heller writes today that it may be time to give up on the divisive cheesesteak and call another sandwich our own.

The roast pork Italian with aged provolone and broccoli rabe is one of the finest treats the culinary world has to offer. An added bonus? I know of not one linguistic threat, court challenge, political snafu or legislative contretemps associated with this remarkable repast.

And if you’re up to it, read the comments, absolutely cringe-worthy.
