Susanna Foo may no longer be on Walnut Street but she’s still cooking it up on the Main Line at Susanna Foo Gourmet Kitchen. And this month you also have the option to cook with Foo and enjoy a 3-course lunch.
The classes are February, 6th, 20th and 27th and run from 1 to 3pm. The cost of the class and lunch is $50 per person.
This evening seems to be a good time to taste some beer. Whole Foods Plymouth Meeting is offering free beer and food from 5 to 7pm.
In Wayne, the Beer Yard is offering free samples of Fireside Ale, Merry Monks, Hops Infusion and Double Simcoe.
Saturday
As we mentioned earlier today, the Farmers’ Market at the Piazza kicks off at 10am.
The Institute is hosting a USA versus Belgium event with lots of delicious Belgian and Belgian-style beers available beginning at 2pm.
Try some new pizza as Zavino will open to the public without its liquor license at 5pm on Saturday. Works out well for you though, because that means there will be some gratis vino.
It’s National Soup Day today and Oyster House will be selling its New England Clam Chowder on Sansom Street from 11:30am to 2pm. The soup will be packaged in a take-out cup with lid and ready to go for $5.
All donations to Philbert, the bronze pig sculpture at the center of the Reading Terminal Market are being turned over to the American Red Cross’ Haiti Fund.
Tonight, Drexel’s Earle Mack School of Law is hosting a Haiti relief fundraiser at Pub & Kitchen. Donations will be collected at the door leading to the upstairs (yes, P&K has an upstairs) and guests who donate will receive a hand stamp allowing them drink specials ($3 beers, $5 wines, $5 house cocktails). Pub & Kitchen will also be donating all event wine sale proceeds to the The LAMP for Haiti Foundation.
A group of four mechanical engineering students from Drexel University are working on a computer automated brewing system as a senior design project. In order to make it a reality they are putting on a beer fest fundraiser to raise funds for a prototype.
This Saturday from 4 to 8pm they are hosting a beer fest at the Blockley. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door and include beer from the following brewers:
Bell’s is rolling out their Hopslam Ale around town this week. Tonight you can try the “biting, bitter, tongue bruiser of an ale” at North Bowl. $20 gets you shoe rental, bowling and a beer. There will be four Bell’s beers on tap for $4 all night.
Happy New Year! We know for many 2009 has been a struggle but when we look back at this year we cannot help but feel hope for the future. Our restaurant scene has weathered and even prospered during these tough times. We hope the same for all who came and spent a little time with Foobooz. It’s been a privilege to share our our passion for Philadelphia’s wonderful food scene with you.
