Weekend: Oh My God, It’s Going to Snow Edition

Posted by Foobooz on 5th February 2010

Friday

Get complimentary wine at Blackfish BYOB between 5 and 6:30pm and after 9pm today and every Friday evening. Tonight will feature a red and white wine from the South of France.

Varga Bar has been tweeting all week about their new happy hour (half off of all beers, cocktails and house wine) and we’re beginning to believe that they’re serious. Happy Hour is Monday to Friday, 4 to 6pm.

Saturday

Yes it will be snowing but that’s no reason to not go out. In fact it is a great reason to go out If you’re feeling particularly intrepid, Belgium Comes to West Chester is a go, 30 Belgian-style beers begin pouring at Iron Hill West Chester at 2pm.

Closer to home but still likely an energizing walk through the snow, the Institute is doing an event featuring coffee, chocolate and barrel aged beer. Lots of great beers will be on tap.

Otherwise, round up some friends and head to the neighborhood watering hole, it’s sure to be picturesque.

Sunday

From our poll it looks like the majority of you will not be heading out to a restaurant or bar to watch the Super Bowl. But even if you’re only heading to a friend’s house, don’t show up empty-handed. Percy Street Barbecue is accepting advance takeout orders and Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant is offering a special $25 for two pizzas and a growler of beer deal. Pull off both and get mad respect.

Friday Recession Specials

Posted by Foobooz on 13th November 2009

We’re updating our popular Recession Specials feature. We’ve added wallet saving deals like Modo Mio’s “turista” menu that’s always a heck of a deal but especially on a Friday night. For the next several days we’ll be rolling out each day’s specials. If you’ve got some suggestions of your own, please add them to the comments. In a week we’ll compile the additions and roll them all into Recession Specials 2.0.

Note, the requirements are these deals include a food component, this is not a drinking guide (not that there’s anything wrong with that, we’re just trying to keep it focused).

Old City Treasure

The Old City Cheese Shop gets a couple of worthy mentions. First, Meal Ticket checks out the Friday night barbecue.

The stonework of neighboring buildings rises, chimney-like, around you, while lush ferns and the canopy of an overhanging tree creates an embowered feeling. Candlelight complements lights strung overhead. It’s hard to find a better escape for a casual Friday night summer dinner than the hidden outdoor patio at the Cheese Shop (160 N. Third St., 215-238-1716) – especially since this once-a-week tradition, which features all manner of BBQ-ed meats and combos, won’t run you more than $18.95.

Phillyist visits during daylight hours and is similarly entranced.

What’s more amazing than the behind-the-counter lunch deal is that if you ask, the staff at OCC will meet you out back in their hidden courtyard (you have to exit the shop and enter another door, then walk down a narrow brick hallway) with your food and an old-fashioned bottle filled with ice water. There are only a few tables available outside, but I’ve never seen the courtyard crowded-perhaps a sign that I wasn’t the only person who didn’t know that it existed.

Friday Deal In Voorhees

Posted by Foobooz on 24th April 2009

Yo Jersey! We know you’re out there and although it may seem like we’re ignoring you…. Well anyway, here’s a cool deal at Catelli’s Ristorante in Voorhees.

Each Friday the restaurant offers a bistro menu where none of the plates cost more than $10.

Some of the choices have us salivating. Homemade potato chips with truffle oil and gorgonzola cream? Heck yeah! Lobster fra Diavalo with rigatoni pasta, lamb chop Milanese. All for $10 or less.

Check out the full menu after the jump.
