Friday Night Dinner Idea

Posted by Foobooz on December 17th, 2009

Speaking of the mob and food, wiseguy “Big Casino” Angelo Lutz has a new cooking show on Philly.com. Watch how he makes clams and macaroni, a Friday night favorite of the fellas when he was in jail.

Stay tuned for the next episode where Angelo shows us how to cut garlic with nothing more than a razor blade.

I think he got this recipe off the can of Cento clams.

I’ve never heard anyone (much less an “Italian”) call spaghetti “macaroni.” In fact, spaghetti isn’t macaroni – see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaroni.

Excellent, I was worried they weren’t going to continue with this after the first two webisodes.

Italian-Americans, not so much actual Italians, call pasta macaroni.

It comes from maccheroni but is used by my grandmother’s generation as a sort of catch-all for pasta.

Lots of South Philly Italian-Americans also call red sauce “gravy”, which caused me lots of confusion at Thanksgiving as a child. I was like, “what is this flavorless brown goo they are calling gravy?”
