What Should The Punishment Be?
Posted by Foobooz on October 28th, 2009
Victor Fiorillo’s Operation Maker’s Mark has wrapped up and Oscar’s got busted. the divey Center City bar was serving up something that wasn’t Maker’s Mark.
But now what? What’s the correct punishment for a bar that’s misrepresenting the liquor they’re serving?

Hmmm… when I try to vote yes, it says, “Please choose a valid poll answer.”

Sorry about that. The poll should be working fine now.

How much money do you save by dumbing down your liquor? 15 bucks a bottle? You can make money using the real stuff. Like that club in old city that was replacing grey goose with bankers club to make more money on a bottle that they were selling for who knows how many hundreds of dollars. Crazy.

Let the punishment fit the crime:
Oscar’s should offer Maker’s Mark and Ketel One drinks at rail prices.

@felicia – i voted other because i was thinking the exact same thing. this has apparently been going on for three months, at least. they should offer premium drinks at well prices for at least that long.

that sounds good at first but then you are having them offer a bargain, which will bring in a lot of people. so you end up doing them a favor.

Suspension is the most logical. Citations and fines can be shrugged off as long as the place remains crowded. If they are forced to shutter for a week that is a lot of lost revenue and sends a strong signal to other bars.

Can I vote that I don’t care? Yeah, it’s dishonest, but I’d rather have Oscar’s open. Who in their right mind goes in there and orders Ketel One or any brand liquor for that matter? Or from any dive bar? Was it really necessary to waste state resources for a big duh, and possibly close a bar where the actually frequenters are drinking lager anyway? Get a life.

It’s a crime against society, honestly. If we don’t enforce these rules, whats to stop every bar from substituting crap for top shelf. Pherhaps it’s ok to switch out the Yuenglig keg of Milwaukee’s Best as well? Or to water down the liquor with water? I think no. Whatever the proscribed punishment by the state should be enforced.
