  1. John Smith Says:

MidAtlantic has not lived up to the hype preceding their recent opening. As a long-time philly resident with a number of allergies and specific dining requests, the service and kitchen staff seemed downright incompetent compared to many of the other restaurants in the city at which I have had the pleasure of dining.
Having warned the waitstaff of my specific dietary restrictions, I was appalled to find the following day that I had had an allergic reaction to their limabean polenta, which was apparently cross-contaminated with wheat flour, aggravating my gluten allergy. The burger I ordered (I reluctantly ordered a burger because it is the only red meat they have on the menu), while cooked to specified medium-well on the outside, was raw – still cold – and inedible on the inside, while the accompanying side-salad was over salted and dry. My husband’s corned beef sandwich was very fatty and drastically overpowered by the horseradish sauce.
While the environment seems pleasant enough, and the atmosphere is pleasantly old-country chic, the choice of music leaves something to be desired – the sound system is much too loud and while I was dining there a Christmas song played all the way through before management took notice. It’s October! And the bar crowd (which is not separated from the main dining room by any sort of wall or partition) was loud, rowdy, and obscene.
I would recommend any of competitor Steven Starr’s restaurants before Daniel Stern’s MidAtlantic. My favorite, Alma de Cuba, is a delicious blend of traditional Cuban and modern American, in a pleasant and quiet environment. For a menu more similar to MidAtlantic’s, try the Barclay Prime or Butcher and Singer Steakhouse, which are both open for lunch (for which MidAtlantic continues to push back their opening), competently staffed, and delicious.

  2. Josh A Says:

So, just by chance two “seperate” people post comments on two posts about Mid Atlantic, and both are negative and say to try Stephen Starr instead?
Maybe the FTC should start investigating commenters to see if they’re getting paid.

  3. Andrea Says:

While I don’t quite understand the comparison to two Starr steakhouses, I find the menu approachable yet very creative. The roast pork sandwhich is the best I’ve ever had (sorry Tony Luke – I’ve been converted). It was a bit loud on my visit but its a taproom not Lacroix. Great beer and fun cocktails – don’t miss out on the rarebit fondue

  4. Jerry Says:

I am so very happy… I just left the MidAtlantic and finally there is something new and fresh in University City. The food and service at the Midatlantic was incredible. I tried a dish called pigwings… AWESOME!!
The sweet start with a bit of heat to finish was perfect. The roast pork sandwhich was to die for!!!

    Going back tomorrow!
