New Midtown For Starr
Posted by Foobooz on October 23rd, 2009
Michael Klein reports that Stephen Starr has rented the Midtown IV Restaurant building at 2013 Chestnut Street. But what will it be?
Starr says it won’t be another Pizzeria Stella and that he will keep the bar in the back and the private entrance onto Ranstead. Starr floats the idea that he might do Mexican that isn’t El Vez. Mexican is certainly under-represented around Rittenhouse Square.
Or could it be one of the other concepts previously floated, like the Greek diner once hoped for Broad and Ellsworth. Or the Love Burger concept once proposed for the Letto Deli? Any guesses?

I thought the same exact thing as Ben.
Ramen bar, stripped down and minimalist a la Momofuku Noodle Bar.

Agreed. As someone who can literally see this restaurant from my apartment window, I would kill for a ramen bar. Especially if it had take out.

Wouldn’t you rather have a ramen/noodle joint from someone who will get the food right?

+ not overcharge for the experience of sitting in an over-decorated “scene”?

Starr’s restaurants are not my favorites, but I think they are always pretty solid. I know loving Starr is not popular among all Philly food enthusiasts, but let me play devil’s advocate here. Look at what he did with Stella pizza – its been great the 2 times I went and there is no real over-decorated scene there. Surely he could pull off Ramen.
