Posted by Foobooz on August 9th, 2009

Carolina Blue and Bomb Bomb BBQ were the winners in the restaurant division and Blind Pig BBQ was the big winner in the Grill Master’s category at Saturday’s Garry Maddox BBQ Challenge.

Stephen Starr’s four restaurants were shut out as was Matt Levin’s forthcoming Rubb.

Update: Buddakan took 3rd for ribs and Jones was 2nd in chicken. [Starr Restaurants on Twitter]

    Rubb got robbed

  4. Anthony Says:

I didn’t try any of the restaurants’ food, but on thing that I have to take my hat of to Rubb for is that all of us teams got there near 630 AM. Rubb and Matt Levin were there earlier than any restaurant cooking. I look forward to seeing them back next year.

  5. Tim Says:

Saturday was a lot of fun, I personally liked Capt’n Dick’s BBQ their sauce was amazing, although I only had their stuff and Buddakan which is not really my style. Anyone know what the results were?

  7. Tom Says:

Thanks for the congrats, bbq lover!
This event is one of the best organized charity bbq competitions around. Great people and a lot of good BBQ cooks. I was great to be a part of this event!
    Cheers!

The only Starr restaurant to actually place was Jones, which got second for their bbq chicken. Shut out in terms of first place, yes, but not entirely shut out.

  9. Anthony Says:

Buddakan got a call, I forget what for though. Last year the winner was Smoke Daddy’s BBQ, 2007-Widespread BBQ, and the year before was a restaurant that has escaped me. Its a nice little run of pit masters winning this thing. Lets not stop that next year.

  10. The Interventionist Says:

Rubb had the most generous sample hands down. A pulled pork slider, two meaty ribs, collareds and mac n’ cheese.

The Country Club also gave me a 2 for of meaty rib and pulled pork slider.

Good deal overall, will have to check it out next year and figure out where everyone was getting their water from.
