Ginger beer like root beer, is a non-alcoholic drink. Ginger beer has a stronger ginger taste than that typically found in ginger ale.

Dark ‘n Stormy = Dark rum (preferably Gosling’s) + ginger beer (preferably Barrit’s-sp?); sometimes a squeeze of lime is added

Dark & Stormy is a cocktail attributed to Bermuda; the usually recipe calls for Goslings Black Seal Rum and ginger beer. You can get close with ginger ale.

I know I’ve read some posts on local establishments making their own ginger beer (it’s not the same process as ‘beer’ beer) and mixing various cocktails with it. I’m not sure if those posts were on foobooz or elsewhere…

The whole concept dovetails nicely with Joe Sixpack’s recent article about the fad of chefs ‘embracing’ lowly beer as a gourmet accompaniment to their dishes.

I’ll stick with my ginger beer based Dark & Stormy.
