I went there three or four times and never had a problem with the staff, always receiving friendly and prompt service. I also never noticed a hipster staff, whatever that means, working there. However, the menu was bland, but not quite as much as the location which really is what did it in. The blame should be on the owner himself.

Chris,

I respect your updates and your position, and I can imagine that the moments/days/weeks after closing a place you spent so much time dreaming about and working on are a very emotional time and that's probably what caused the first blog post on the subject.

I'll also say that the few times i've gotten to have your beer (the royal stumble being one memorable occasion for me), I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

I agree with all of you and do accept full responsibility for the demise of The Tiedhouse. More than anything, I'm probably most disappointed that we were not able to provide the neighborhood with what we had hoped was going to be a great spot.

I cannot believe how little ownership this man took in his own establishment. If you allow your staff to treat your guests poorly, then they will do just that. If you allow your cook to take no pride in the food he is cooking, then he will do that. As a manager or owner, it is your responsibility to train your staff how you expect them to work. Especially in these economic times when there is so many more applications to choose from, if you were not happy with your staff, why would you just not fire them?

It sounds like more to me that this owner did little research on where he decided to put a restaurant and is trying to blame people for his own poor business choices.

The location was going to kill this place unless it was incredible, and that it wasn't. The food was ok, the beer was ok, the atmosphere nondescript (completely different than the original brewpub), it had a nice deck, but it's hidden away in franklintown. If they wanted a cc location, they picked the wrong place. Maybe he shouldn't have hired so many hispsters.

To echo what Rory said... as the owner, he has final say in these matters. The bland atmosphere and the dumbing down of the menu led to this places demise. Not that it impacted anything greatly, but who wants to traverse a few hundred yards through hallways and lobbys to use a condo buildings bathroom?

wow he's mad.

except management's job is supposed to be to make sure that it finds, trains, and supports staff that buy-in. so while his chef and landlord sound like asses, so does he.
