My favorite new find this beer week was The Bruery from Orange County, CA. I’m visiting LA in April and dragging my friends with me to try the Saison de Lente. Russian River Consecration was also key! It was my first stop at Devil’s Den and St. Stephen’s Green and really enjoyed both of those for new beer destinations. My old standby Tria esp. Fermentation School really made it a great week!
A note of improvement, if festivals continue to be at the Penn Museum there are definite improvements needed, high top tables (esp. Brewer’s Plate), and better signage (esp. Zythos USA). Maybe a smaller ticket limit? Also more selection for the VIPs at Brewer’s Plate, it wasn’t really worth the money (but definitely worth the seats and tables!).

Trium “Jewish Rye” really does taste like caraway!

Anybody taste dogfish head Paolo Santo?

Brewer’s plate at UPENN museum offered somewhat more space than last year @ constitution center, but still tight down the back hall. and there were signs everywhere saying “do not put anything on this [fill in the blank 10,000 year-old artifact]“. I chuckled to myself as people put yummy distrito sammiches and drippy victory on the glass cases and granite blocks.

i didn’t get to go to many events, but the tasting of belgian imports @ The Institute was AMAZING. got to be first in the US to try a whole bunch of awesome and unique beers from these guys: http://12percentimports.com/. i won’t dare try to pronounce or spell most of the beers/brewers, but i’ll be looking for them.

Dogfish Head lunch at Teresa’s – great. The pairing went really well together, and the highlites were the Black and Blue with porkelkbit and the Fort Custard with brandy.
Victory at the Foodery – Wild Devil seems like a nice cross between the hop devil and their golden monkey. A Belgian IPA?
Unibroue at Eulogy – awesome group of guys from the brewery with awesome hats. the chambly de noire was good

memphis taproom’s vintage beer brunch: an amazing meal, a generous host, an astounding beer cellar. really loved the ‘04(?) flying dog imperial porter.

Sidecar’s Arcadia/New Holland Beer & Cheese Throwdown- $15 for 12 different beers and six cheeses!
Great Beer Week efforts all around — though I think I need a Master Cleanse now.

Torn between the Weyerbacher Insanity at Devil’s Den Tuesday night and the Avery Mephistopheles I stumbled across at Tria W. West’s Sunday beer blowout (semi-literally stumbled since I had a variety of Ayingers at Bridgewaters for brunch). Those two tastes are my strongest memories from Beer week.

Best beers were La Merle from North Coast, Imperial Stout from Lagunitas, Da Phunk from Noddinghead, and the genious mixture of Rogue Chocolate Stout and Dogfish Head La Fort at the Ladies Beer Tea. Yum! I gotta dog POPE for their Cheesesteak Throwdown, which was 1.5 hours late. Although I never would have tried La Merle if we weren’t waiting for the steaks. I would have loved to have tried the Sixpoint Ales at Fergie’s and the Russian Rivers at Local 44, but I was all beered out by Friday.

Russian River was at Local 44 yesterday. At least their beers were, and probably still are: Piny the Elder, Damnation, Salvation, Rejection, and Blind Pig IPA.

Went to a ton last year and the sheer amount of events was overwhelming this year. Not complaining by any means tho! I live in South Philly so events at Pope, SPTR, Sidecar, Devils Den. On Saturday SPTR and Pope were so packed from the beer bus that we went to Lucky 13 to hideout – even ran into other South Philly citizens who had the same idea.

As a hophead – Green Flash at South Philly Tap Room was my fave.

The real question -> where was Russian River or Bear Republic?

I should add that besides that it was great and well-organized. I really enjoyed the Troegs event at the Kite & Key on Friday evening, and the tastings at the Foodery were a pleasant surprise.

I was really annoyed that the couple of events I wanted to attend in Center City on Saturday afternoon were overrun by drunken college kids who probably didn’t care what they were drinking as long as it got them drunk. The Erin Pub Crawl and the like and just roving bands or drunken frat boys and their equally drunken girlfriends.

I was surprised by how well-attended the events were given the sheer number of them (close to 700, i think?). Just validates this city’s enthusiasm for good beer.

Rodenbach Grand Cru flowing from the tap was a wonderful sight….The Atwater Cherry Stout was really nice…Shackamaximum was a pleasant suprise, as was the Flying Mouflan…but the simple forward simplicity of Fuller’s London Pride on cask yesterday at Yards Real Ale Invitivational was the best!
