Misconduct Getting Geeky

Posted by Foobooz on March 31st, 2009

The Misconduct Tavern has always had at least a decent beer selection but it looks like it’s getting downright geeky.

Tomorrow the Locust Street bar will be throwing a release party for the 2009 edition of Bell’s Oberon. Larry Bell Derek from Bell’s will be in attendance and Bell’s Amber and Two Hearted Ale will also be pouring.

Mondays will be known as “Beer Geek Mondays” and will feature unusual beers on special. This Monday will have Southern Tier’s Phin & Matt Pale Ale pouring at 6pm. The following week will be Flying Dog’s In Heat Wheat.

Down the line will see Ommegang Three Philosophers, Troeg’s Mad Elf, Left Hand’s Juju Ginger and more.

I was there last night and had AMAZING make your own mac and cheese – I went bacon, sundried toms and caramelized onions…yum!

The food there is really good, but for some reason the place gets no press or mention by foodies when they list places with good bar food. I think it is because the name/theme is kind of stupid and nobody wants to tell people to eat at a place called “Misconduct Tavern”.

They have awesome homemade chicken fingers and really good wings. The mac and cheese is also really good as mentioned above.

It is also a really great place to watch sports.

    They have great burgers too…

To chime in, they also had Troegenator on tap recently (and may still). This spot is great.

I believe Misconduct is the name of a boat owned by the original owner–who has since passed. Only an idiot would forgo a place just because of the name…Besides, it’s a cool name, anyway. And, it doesn’t look like they’re getting any shortage of press, considering it IS their bar we are reading about….

Never had a problem with the name, and I first went there specifically for the burger which had a good write up a couple of years ago in one of the alt weeklies, or maybe it philly.com. My guess is it gets little attention because it’s a competent bar. Awesome burger, good bar food, good bar; but it’s not (until recently) been trying to pull in the foodies and beer geeks because its one of those bars that’s built up a decent crowd of regulars, no need for blogs to point food/beer tourists their way.

This Bell’s thing, is the tapping in the evening or will some of be able to get some Oberon action as part of a late lunch?

  7. Marty B. Says:

Oops. You guys got the McManus lunch burger article that sent me there in your links.

I stopped in for Beer Geek Monday – I’m kinda one myself ;) – to try the Phin and Matt Ale from Southern Tier. WOW! Had a great burger also – I can’t seem to bring myself to order anything else at this place. I’m totally addicted. See you next Monday!!
