Rick Nichols On Prohibition Taproom

Posted by Foobooz on November 17th, 2008

Prohibition Taproom

Rick Nichols is drawn to the Loft District’s Prohibition Taproom by three glowing letters, B-A-R.

The place had me at the BAR sign. On a commercial strip, who’d ever notice it? But here in the dark, not a mouse stirring (well, maybe a mouse) in the Loft District, it is something of a beacon and a safe harbor, as straightforward and direct as that hospital H.

Just three little letters [Philadelphia Inquirer]

I’ll never understand how people can give a good review and then add a smack like “area on the fringe” I got a ton of that and it irked the hell out of me. It might not be meant as anything other than a comment but seriously if you don’t live in an area and really know what its like, its not fair to lable it. Unless its a well known “bad” area or “good” area. This area falls into a gray zone of sorts. When in doubt call it “fringe” even if you don’t know my house just appraised at 450,000.
PTR has brough something the area needed: a nicely done spot with good pub fare. Its been great for my bar as well. We’re getting quite a bit of cross-over business from people who eat at PTR and the check out my place.
Its more of a destination area now which is great for both places. We’re happy to see all of the good reviews because it means (hopefully) even more people will come to check out both places and realize what a great area it really is. There also is Root, Siam Lotus and Sazon just a few blocks away. All worthy of checking out.

hey i live in this neighborhood. it’s more than on the fringe. why do people ignore a homeless shelter down the street? getting raped/mugged doesn’t give an area character.

can we delete the above comment? that was some straight bull.

a homeless shelter = raped/mugged. that’s just terrible to write…especially the day after thanksgiving? smh.
