Iron Hill Growth Plan
Posted by Foobooz on November 4th, 2008
Jack Curtin interviews Iron Hill Brewing Company’s co-founder and Director of Brewing Operations, Mark Edelson about the future of Iron Hill.
Iron Hill plans six additional pubs by 2011 and their first New Jersey location is right on schedule for a Spring opening.
One note we thought of particular interest was Edelson’s response to a Philadelphia location. “If the right situation or deal presented itself, we would certainly look at it. But, to be honest, because of the price of real estate and the opportunities to become a real part of the community, the suburbs fit our business model just right.”
Do you think a Philadelphia Iron Hill could work? Where would you put it?

Could work somewhere on the eastern end of Chestnut… oh, wait a sec…
Actually, I think Fairmount would be decent for them though I personally would love them to set up at the old KFC at Girard and Front!

I’d put it in Cheltenham Twp, a block from my house.

My initial thought was that I never see old city Triumph as busy as I saw the Iron Hill’s I’ve been to, but maybe it could work in Fairmount, if Jacks Firehouse ever folded it would be perfect in that space.

So you can’t become “a real part of the community” in the city? Wow. Tell that to Dock Street or Brigid’s or South Philly Taproom.

It makes perfect sense to me! The Iron Hills I’ve been to are very suburban – they’re like the Outback ‘Steakhouse’ of brewhouses!

Fairmount-the old mortgage securities building at 17th?
Market East-yes, that Market East. there are some spaces on east chestnut that would work. Office workers and tourists might like it. too bad they didn’t take over for Independence.
Roxborough-get off the lot Barbera
Sports Complex-Philly Live could use Iron Hill. Brewpubs and stadiums mix well.

Maybe they meant they wouldn’t be accepted as a real part of the community. the West Chester location isn’t “suburban”

They should close whatever took over the location where independence was at and let iron hill move in.
