Who cares why the Irish Pub? Does every business have to justify why they host certain events? This is getting scary.

I thought Foobooz was about food, apparently I was wrong. Why don’t you post on Goode’s behavior this week if you want to get political? At least you could keep it local, but of course that might not be politically correct, right?

Its not about sensitivities or that my reaction is over the top…its the fact that the post indicates that this is a venue catering to conservatives, and that certainly has the ability to hurt ones business, especially in our city here. That is all I am saying.

I didn’t read this post as a call to reject the Irish Pub for their politics or a call for the Irish Pub to reject customers. Rather, it just notes what a coup it is for the Irish Pub to host a VP candidate on such a big night – as it was a big coup for the Irish Pub to cook for the Pope. Don’t overreact.

Whether or not the conspiracy theory is warranted in this particular instance, it is certainly not the case that the politics — or more generally, views — of a businessperson don’t play a role in who he chooses to do business with. Wouldn’t there be raised conservative eyebrows if a bar held an event for some stereotypically liberal group (say, a gay wedding banquet, an abortion rights organization, anti-war ralliers…), and wouldn’t the fact that the event were held there affect their opinions about both the owner and the establishment?

Wtf do the politics of a person have anything to do with where they hold the event, even if the event is political. A venue is needed, and owner Mark O’Connor is a businessman. Why should he deny himself the business and profits. This line of thinking is deluded and though, you may question my politics after reading this as well, I know for a fact, that no one would even object to Obama or Biden having an event there…not even conservatives. Stop looking everything through your jaded vision and treat all candidates with respect and honor, whether you agree with them or not!
