Three Bells For Zahav
Posted by Foobooz on August 18th, 2008

Rick Nichols subs for Craig LaBan and rings three bells for Zahav, the Israeli restaurant overlooking Dock Street in the shadows of the Society Hill towers. Nichols finds some gold in the regular menu but he’s quite grumpy with the the Quarter, Zahav’s back room for weekly tastings.
Zahav does so much right, so singularly and – in its rendering of a Jewish grandmother’s unforgettable chicken soup – sometimes brilliantly. It’s worth the climb up, if only to look down, indulgently, on the out-of-the-know Zahav-nots.
Three Bells – Excellent

mos def a different prose approach. can’t wait to read the faux review of Zahav from the motley, mousy & misleading Phyllis Stein-Novak! I’m sure she’ll bypass the signature house cocktails and bitch about their martini, whine that its too dark, not get her bread fast enough, say the kitchen is confused about the concept and talk about having dessert elsewhere. other than that, the late nite menu at the bar is a kewl way to go as well.

Actually, she loved it.
Three extraordinary tips of the toque to Zahav.

Trust me we really don’t care about what the South Philly Review has to say. I agree with you assessment of Ms. Novak’s writing and let’s never mention her name on this awesome website again. The SPR is not to be taken seriously in the area of food reviewing at this time.
