No Ludwig’s, No Problem

Posted by Foobooz on August 18th, 2008

We lament the demise of the Germanic roots of the Midtown Village’s Fall Festival but it is with great joy that we report that Philadelphia will indeed have a proper Oktoberfest this year. From 1 to 5 pm on September 27th, the 23rd Street Armory will be the setting for authentic German food, music and beer. Speaking of beer, Spaten will headline the more than 50 beer choices from German and craft American brewers.

Tickets will be $45, $75 VIP option is also available and will soon be available online.

I see they have a $15 designated driver. They should consider offering a SEPTA discount as well. Say, $40 with SEPTA tickets. Let’s face it, no one wants to be the DD at an oktoberfest.

Does anyone know who planned this whole thing?

  3. suzanne Says:

The planners are Philadelphia’s beer authorities and the masterminds behind Philly Beer Week.

The poeple at Time are doing the Ludwigs Octoberfest same as it’s always been. I’ve even heard a rumor the old owner will be there. There blocking all the streets off and October 4th…all day and no cover!!

I don’t think you should be allowed to have Oktoberfest unless you are either a) A German place, or b) at least a major player in the Philadelphia beer scene. Time is neither…. What is it about absinthe, or brown liquors or shrimp cocktail that makes you think you should host an Oktoberfest? Although I haven’t heard anything about it, I will be going to the Oktoberfest at the German Society on Spring Garden, at least it will be somewhat authentic…. There is a mention of it on their website… Foobooz, find out what the scoop is with that will ya…
